Character modeling question

I know how to model now, since I learn it at school. But if I want to model something for JA, playermodels in this case, do I need to use a meshsmooth, or can I also model with the casual polymodeling and a couple of smoothing groups?
Because most tutorials for low poly character modeling use meshsmooths.

Thanks

I don't care what anyone else says, game art and meshsmooth dont go together. The most important thing to focus on for a real time mesh is the silhouette. It means adding more definition to areas that need it, NOT everywhere.

That's my opinion, it doesnt mean i'm right, but if you end up using meshsmooth keep it to a reasonable polycount ;).

P.S.:Id like to see those tutorials that use meshsmooth for game art...it's commonly used for normal maps but not for the actual game mesh.

It's the tutorial for jeanne d'arc, I can bet you know that one.
But I don't think it's meant for gaming

Yeah i know it, i learned a lot from it hehe and no it's not for game art.

Ben Mathis has a great video character tutorial (and a bunch of others)

Highly recommended.
