TSL Music Improvement Mod

Well, I'm working on a new music mod, except this one will be much larger than my previous. This one will include remasterings of every music track in KotOR 2.

One thing that you may or may not know, but the music included in the High Quality Patch isn't as high quality as it's expected. Instead, it's in a compresses Wave format, with a sampling rate of only 22,050 Hz. Now, that is half the quality of an audio CD. It's still better than the original music tracks which are encoded with a pitiful 11,025 Hz sampling rate, but it's still not good enough. Of course, with the Miles Sound Tools, you can decompress the audio, thus allowing it to playback in full, CD quality 44,100 Hz. When listening to the music in the highest quality available, especially with headphones, you hear a lot more depth, and you even hear instruments that you couldn't hear with the original music. Thankfully, this will mod include tracks with the best quality possible. :D

I'm still debating on whether to use the MP3 format or the uncompressed Wave format. Obviously, the uncompressed Wave format will be of better quality, but at the cost of storage space. If I do use the MP3 format, it will be at the highest but rate available for MP3s, which is 320kbps, and even that has outstanding quality, along with a lightweight storage size. Plus, I can even add ID3 tags, allowing the tracks to be played on a MP3 player. :shades2:

On to the actual alterations that I've done, I'm adding several effects, including a slight reverb to some themes, and I'm also adjusting the equalizer on some, especially ones which have some big brass in them, to give them a much bigger sound. Overall, you'll hear a much pronounced soundtrack. :D

Here's some of my work:
Rebuilt Jedi Enclave Theme
Telos Battle Theme
The Sith Lords Main Theme
M4-78 Main Theme

Hmm, sounds promesing.

I'll take a look tomorrow, as i don't have the time right now.

Edit: Just had a look, and i have to say i am impressed.

You've done a great job so far! I eagerly await the mod's release.

A quick progress report update; I've reworked around a quarter of all the music. I'm also going to improve the quality of the ambiance, since they're pretty low quality as well.

More music goodness:
Iziz Cantina Music
Sion's Theme

I really like Sion's theme. Keep it up! :D

While your work sounds interesting, I'm not sure YouTube's 64Kbps 22,050Hz mono audio is the best way to showcase it.

True, but it's the only thing at my disposal. The actual tracks are of much better quality, though.

I have no doubt. My point was simply that you can't actually appreciate the improvement after running it through something as god-awful as YouTube.

Hey, friend, your work is very good...I am going to release a "4 seasons launcher" mod, and everything is ready, except for the music...I can't find suitable tracks for the seasons, especially summer...could you make me some music tracks for the seasons? If you agree, PM me, and I will send you the info for each track. Anyways, thanks, and keep up the good work!;)

Not off the bat, but you could always just figure it out by yourself. If you know the chronological order of each piece, then you can just place it in order.

I wasn't phrasing my question correctly. I apologize. Take two:

I think what might be throwing me off is that I thought you were using the same naming system as was first promoted on this site: http://soundtracks.mixnmojo.com/kotor2.htm. You stated as much in your PM response of 10-24-2008.

Yeah, I used that site extensively for the mod.
Why change the song titles?

jrrtoken 11-19-2008 05:16 PM

I used the site for a good portion of the songs, but I didn't use it for all of them. There were other tracks that I had to create names for, which weren't included on that site. The existing tracks that I did change were really out of... personal preference, and overall, it was just me being a bit finicky. Some of the song titles were a bit... off-kilter, and in my opinion, weren't the most appropriate names for songs. You're absolutely free to change their titles, if you wish.
