Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D Editor Request

Rogues, it is time to remember good old times! It is time to go and find your helmets under the heaps of hopelessness. Blanch it and wear it with honour. It is time to show everybody that we are back from a long nonexistence.

Please read it, sign it and spread this around: http://www.petitiononline.com/swrs3d/petition.html

LukA_YJK 03-24-2009 08:31 AM

C'mon, Rogues, only two people signed the petition so far. Anybody who has got super moderator powers, please communicate this to the Council and post an announcement, so other Star Wars game fans would also know about it. It is a highest time to do that, since Factor 5 is to be shut down very soon.

Dear LucasArts and Factor 5,

We are a group of enthusiastic fans of your great PC platform computer game, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D. For more than ten years this game, which became a Star Wars arcade game classics, was a source of inspiration for many and many Star Wars fans. But unlike some other Star Wars games there is not any tool available which would let fan community to expand the game by developing additional levels and modifications.

As it is known Factor5 used its in-house level editor L3D to design game levels for Rogue Squadron and Rogue Leader. In fact this tool is not used anymore for any other games because it is out-of-date by now.

Therefore we ask you to release freely the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D level editor. It would allow us to use our creativity to revive the game and expand it with fantastic add-ons. The editor would also serve as a new item in the arsenal of all those enthusiastic fans of Star Wars games.

We are very much looking forward for your kind and helpful decision

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

Lynk Former 03-24-2009 03:35 PM

I hate to break it to you, Luka... but Factor 5 doesn't exist anymore.

LukA_YJK 03-24-2009 04:33 PM

I know, Lynk, I know, I heard the news, but this is what makes our chances higher, isn't it? ;)

Lynk Former 03-25-2009 02:40 AM

Not really... I mean LA isn't going to give anyone anything for free.

LukA_YJK 03-25-2009 06:07 AM

Hey, Lynk, you are probably right, but watch this and try to get my point

I think it is possible if we will get many voices. Why not to have fan made Rogue Squadron levels if there are many Jedi Knight or X-Wing developer communities around. Secondly Factor 5 guys might want to give out their in-house editor, huh?

Lynk Former 03-25-2009 03:39 PM

Since when has an online petition ever worked though? XD

jrrtoken 03-25-2009 04:06 PM

IMO, if you really want to play Rogue Squadron again, then you should really ask LucasArts to release the source code to the public. That way, someone can write a custom engine from it basing it off of the code.

Now, that does somewhat improbable, mainly becuase this is LucasArts, a company which seems to be totally deaf to its fanbase.

Lynk Former 03-25-2009 04:19 PM

And because 98% of everyone else wouldn't as well.

Oh my goodness, Lynky, are you trying to be pragmatic? I cant recognise you, guys, who was talking about insanity? Is it ARESEN or somewhere else? :) C'mon, we have got three signatures already, I will go for it, but with your support it would be much easier. Please post a forum announcement with the Petition information, otherwise... I will do it myself ;) PastramiX, we don't need their source codes. They just need to give us the editor used for creating game levels, so we could add new levels, possibly from Rogue Leader or replace the models with more detailed ones.

Kuuki 03-25-2009 09:02 PM

moo.

Lynk Former 03-26-2009 04:19 AM

We can make up whatever reality we want in here and in our minds... but at the end of the day that's about it... unless you have the power to create your own reality outside of that, you're not going to get what you want XD

Redwing 04-01-2009 03:45 AM

Lynk is all about the buzzkill today. :D

I don't think this'll work - primarily because no one with access to such an editor cares enough to release it to us. But of course I'll sign.

LukA_YJK 04-01-2009 11:41 AM

Thanks, Redwing, you are as supportive as always :-) We have got 12 sinatures already. I think it will work this time!

By the way, unexpected support came from the famous unseen64 where they posted a note about our petition: http://www.unseen64.net/2009/04/01/p...ron-3d-editor/

Thanks for support ;) Unbelieveable, but PetitionOnline.com is under attack. It is confirmed by Kevin Matthews of Artifice, Inc:

We do know, as I'm sorry to say, that PetitionOnline has been inaccessible since Friday morning, making this already our worst outage in nearly ten years of petition hosting, and it is still ongoing. A basic discussion of the DDoS attack being waged against us is posted here: http://www.designcommunity.com/forum...ic.php?t=28380 Even though our servers are and have been running fine, and the data on them is safe, they remain temporarily unreachable over the Internet due to this attack.

Kj°len 06-16-2009 01:44 AM

There, you see? All hope, gone.
