Favorite Vidya Music
Being this is a nerdy Star Wars forum, I'm sure you all can play the Star Wars theme song in your head without even having to think about it. Well I'm also sure that you all have played some vidya (video games) that has had some awesome music that you simply cannot forget. If you haven't then that can only mean you need to play more, better vidya. So let's post some of our favorite vidya music... I'll kick it off with some Golden Sun Battle Theme.

Edit: side note, if you have never played Golden Sun... for shame |

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PSone has some of the best videogame music ever IMO. It helps that it's one of my favorite games of all time. But it has a very varied soundtrack, it's great. You can find a youtube playlist here but I'll link to some of my favorite individual tracks.

The other videogame music that comes to mind first is from Mirror's Edge. The theme "Still Alive" by Lisa Miskovsky is awesome and so is the ambient soundtrack used throughout the game. Show spoiler

Tetris... that theme song... it's in my brain... telling me things... IT WON'T SHUT UP!!! GET IT OUT!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaa it makes me stack things. HORRIBLE blocks. THEY COME FOR MEEEEEE!
I'm better now... The original Quake had some really good music too. |

Funny thing is back when I used to play Sonic the Hedgehog, I would mute the sound and play Ministry. Seemed to work better for me than the original music. A lot of games work better for me when I'm using my own soundtrack.
KotOR's obviously were different. Those were good. I actually liked II's soundtrack better in some spots. |

I'm sure there's more but those are the ones I like to listen to the most. |

I do SO look forward to the continuation of this thread--hope it gets stickified. Just a question though: was this inspired by some of my choices in the "what are you listening to" thread? :roleyess: I like just about every megaman track ever made that I have ever heard. Go ahead, pick one from the original or the X series--I'll guess exactly which one it is. I"m *that* nerdy about it. Example:I'm torn on megaman X3 stage music Gravity Beetle SNES version: "Rockman X3" PlayStation version (arranged): @ Darth Moeller: You are not the only one: The CV series is known for its LOOOOONG history of memorable VG tracks. Look up "Bloody Tears", you'll find CV2 for the NES and the X68000 systems were the originals. That track still kicks to this day. Just a few of the many CV tracks I love: Show spoiler

@ Thread Go to the music section of www.protoman.com and download some great stuff. I love this site. It was originally founded on making TOTALLY EPIC WIN AWESOME megaman VG tracks available. However, ironically, Capcom shut that part of it down. But there is still a ton of tracks. Also, you can go to vixy.net and rip soundtracks/videos from youtube in various formats. Not sure if vixy works anywhere else, though. If I remember correctly, gh.ffshrine.org has a bunch, but I ain't been there in awhile. @ Tommycat: yeah, I know what you mean. Stuck, but if it's good, why would you want it to leave? ;) |
My personal favorites,
Super Contra (aka Super C) (NES) Show spoiler
River City Ransom (NES) All the music in this game is just awsome. Show spoiler
Halo To bad the second and third games couldn't match the epicness of the first. Show spoiler
Call of Duty: World at War Nazi Zombie Theme (x360) Just for the change from the classics None of the lyrics are actually used in game, because 90% sure it would ruin the epic effect Show spoiler

The theme song for the end credits of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

I saw them as a front band for ozzfest in 2003. We moshed like maniacs in 106 degree weather, and yes, I do believe I remember this song in the lineup. You ****ing EPIC win, bro! I also like Filth's rendition of Ozzy's original "Mr Crowley" and Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name". YES! Quote:

Time to pump more music into this thread.
I'll start off with some of my favorite tracks from Kingdom Hearts. Show spoiler
Next up the Intro for Final Fantasy Tactics... amazing game Show spoiler
And the Intro to No More Heroes... Show spoiler
Lastly the Valkyria Chronicles Intro, this game has a fantastic OST, sadly I can't find much of it on YouTube with out the game scenes themselves being in there. I've said it before also, but if you own a PS3, you must own this game, period. Show spoiler
I guess that's all... for now. Quote:

after having played through Vampire: Bloodlines, I'd say that one has some of the best music in it. Genitorturers song that wouldn't pass the PG 13 rating... as if any of their songs do haha...

OK. I have something for those who are fond of the 8 bit era. You'll wish it was in your video games, or at the very least get a good laugh. As will metal-heads you out there on LF. XD

My sister and I are going to a Lacuna Coil concert in Chicago next month--hopefully they'll play 'Swamped'. I'd love to see how well they do that live. |
I also just remembered Martina Topley-Bird's Sandpaper Kisses, which appears on Fahrenheit, or Indigo Prophecy, depending on which side of the pond you live.

Awesome boss theme from one of the best games ever. |
Anything from the Gears of War OST. I also like the opening theme for the new UFC Undisputed 2009 game. Though, it's more of a song. |
I will be contributing to this thread quite a bit, so I'm going to hold myself to only a few songs to start off.
From one of the best sequels to come out in a long time: Show spoiler
And my personal favorite character theme from the same game: Show spoiler
dat azzzzzzzzzz Finally, no matter how many modern iterations there are of this last song, the original version will still be the best: Show spoiler

I like villainous music sometimes. Being a longtime megaman fan, particularly the X series at about #4:
Show spoiler
Lastly GTA:Vice City had the awesomeness of Iron Maiden; 2 minutes to midnight |
Prince of Persia: Battle Theme
Final Fantasy X: Suteki Da Ne |

The best Sonic game music, ever. Show spoiler
Ending song to the Witcher, one of the best pieces I've heard in a long time. Plus the game was kinda fun too. :xp: Show spoiler
By and large my favorite piece from the SNES era of Final Fantasy, as remixed by the awesome Black Mages. Show spoiler
Not my favorite Final Fantasy game, but definitely my favorite Chocobo theme. :3 |
Some more blue bomber. In the classic series. Though this number of title made it apparent this was going to be a rehash series...well, I'd say at least what it has going fo ir is the music tracks...
Show spoiler
MM5--Dr. Wily music. Tired of MM already? Bah--I'll give you something else....... Show spoiler
Famicom version CV3, track Vs Dracula round 1 Show spoiler
Beavis and Butt-Head SNES various tracks hospital level I actually was bored enough hella days ago to try to play these on my electric bass. I actually was able to do almost all of these back then more or less. Except the boss theme-- I just wasn't fast enough. Since I wasn't the best (and no doubt major time suckage NOW that I ain't played it in, what 8, 9 years) I was a bit rough or sloppy on most all of them. But I have to admit it was fun when I did them. *looks at my old axe* Damn how times change. |
Time to add more Vidya music, I'll start off with one from the game I'm currently playing, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Show spoiler
Next up is only the best battle music from Chrono Trigger... Show spoiler
Whenever I hear this next one, it's like I get freaking thrown back in time to summer sleepovers at my cousin's house... Show spoiler
Lastly for now, one of the most iconic 8 or so seconds of sound... Show spoiler

GTA IV loading screen song... simply cannot get it out of my head.

The escape music from assassin's creed <3 Show spoiler

Since we're all familiar w/ Quiet Riot's version of "Cum On Feel The Noize". What you all may not be familiar with is the original. Also Oasis did their own version of it.
It is of brit-rock origin. Slade: 1972, obviously 70's era rock sounding. If you like the contemporary brit rock revival of 60's-70's rock, Oasis would do nicely for ya. Of course anyone familiar with hair bands of the 80's (or at least played GTA:Vice City V-Rock staiton) knows of the Quiet Riot version. Show spoiler

MARVEL VS CAPCOM
Theme of hidden character. Is that not worthy of a god? I'd totally use that if as my entrance theme if I had made the cut for BYW. I would not mind giving Capcom their cut either. |
The Brutal Legend soundtrack should brutally awesome:

Most of my favorite game music has been mentioned. Mav already posted some No More Heroes which is one of my faves, another great track is NO MORE NO MORE HEROES \m/ |

I ALSO DON'T SEE ANY MUDVAYNE! WHAERE THE **** IS MUDVAYNE?!?!?!?! :swear: ------------- I know another MM track, and to top it off the cover looks just wrong. Capcom? What the hell were you thinking?! Anyway, here is a track which is pretty epic for a Game Boy game: Show spoiler
A rip of this is actually booming with bass and full stereo surround if the track was recorded correctly. YT is down for right now and I can't get anything else so I'll add more in a bit when it is back up. |

it's epic depressive nature was best expressed in the titular movie, which I hold to be one of the finest movies I've ever watched. |

Why the hell is it always used to represent some climactic battle or something stupid like that? Anyway, most of my favourites (Monkey Island 3, Age of Empires II, The Republic Commando theme, Max Payne 2) Have already been mentioned, so i'll just post some of the ones I can remember. Most of the music in Sid Meier's Pirates! is awesome, but these two are, probably unsurprisingly, my favourites. Show spoiler
The game might not have been that great, but a lot of the music for Desperados 2 was good - Show spoiler
And I quite liked the main theme to Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. Show spoiler
