Normal or Inverted Y-Axis?

When playing first or third person games, do you use a normal (up is up and down is down) or inverted Y-axis?

jrrtoken 08-07-2009 11:52 AM

Since I suppose you mean using a thumbstick on a gamepad, I'd use inverted Y-axis for freelook, much like with a joystick in a flight sim. With a mouse, it's standard, freelook or not.

Alkonium 08-07-2009 12:23 PM

On foot and in land vehicles, I'll use normal, but for air vehicles, I'll use inverted.

Astor 08-07-2009 12:23 PM

I use inverted. I don't understand why, but I find it's much easier to play games with an inverted axis.

Miltiades 08-07-2009 12:51 PM

Normal. I find it easier.

Hallucination 08-07-2009 01:28 PM

Inverted 4 lyfe.

Litofsky 08-07-2009 02:17 PM

I've always found Normal to be easier than inverted.

TriggerGod 08-07-2009 03:39 PM

I tried playing Halo 1 with inverted once.

I quit before it was too late.

SG-17 08-07-2009 04:01 PM

I have always played inverted. I don't know why but I think it had something to do with Syphon Filter.

EnderWiggin 08-07-2009 05:40 PM

Inverted just makes more sense to me.

M@RS 08-07-2009 09:00 PM

Normal, I've tried to get used to inverted, and just can't.

Sabretooth 08-07-2009 09:06 PM

Normal. :shades2:

Same, honestly I don't know how people play with "normal" and I don't know why normal is the default in all games. For me part of it might be the fact that on PC X-Wing was one of the first direct control games I played (I probably had mostly only played adventure games before).

acdcfanbill 08-07-2009 11:46 PM

I chose Inverted because joysticks require inversion and the mouse as well if it's controlling a ship. Otherwise for my mouse, up is up, for fps or windows.

Tommycat 08-08-2009 01:22 AM

I'm normally inverted.

Used to it since early Quake days

Totenkopf 08-08-2009 02:48 AM

Normal.

ForeverNight 08-08-2009 10:47 AM

Normal, there's a reason it's called as such. o_Q

Boba Rhett 08-08-2009 05:04 PM

Inverted 4 life, yo.

Same.

Zeaband 08-08-2009 11:57 PM

Inverted for any kind of flying however for some reason in ground based games I use normal.

Jasper_Kazai 08-09-2009 10:20 AM

I can't stand using inverted. There was one game where it was inverted by default and I got used to it, but the second I found out that you could change it, I did.

purifier 08-09-2009 03:04 PM

Most of the time I play normal, but then again.. inverted when I'm flying something.

Kurgan 08-09-2009 04:19 PM

I don't recall, but I think I may have started out playing JK1 inverted, but somehow I switched and got used to it, and now that's all I use. It feels more intuitive (in a flight sim it would be the opposite of course).

If I were moving my mouse around the screen, that's where my crosshair would go in a game, and the character's "head" etc).

Gamma097 08-10-2009 09:27 AM

Inverted when in a air vehicle and normal when I'm not in one.

purple_tentacle_ 08-10-2009 09:58 PM

I use normal the other is to confusing. But I think all good shooters or anygame should have both options so you get the most out of the game.

General LiWar 08-10-2009 11:09 PM

like most people i used normal for ground and inverted when flying

Darth Avlectus 08-11-2009 03:11 AM

Depends on the game, situation, and interface of system. It's different with each one, I can't explain it, really.

This.

RoxStar 08-12-2009 01:47 AM

Up means up, dammit!

Te Je'karta Mand'alor 08-12-2009 03:48 PM

normal, unless i'm in an aircraft

PoiuyWired 08-16-2009 10:44 AM

normal for all games.

Agincourt 08-18-2009 10:45 AM

When I use a mouse, I prefer the Y-flipped setting. I prefer a joystick to work like a joystick.

Samnmax221 08-18-2009 07:13 PM

Invertebrates **** off.

ZBomber 08-21-2009 04:21 AM

I dont get the point of using inverted in FPS. I get using it for air sims, but FPS?

Yeah, I do this too.

The Betrayer 08-31-2009 03:35 AM

I use inverted for flying.
