Dead Space 2

Not sure if anyone here is a fan of Dead Space (or Horror/Survival for that matter).. but I loved the game. A new trailer for Dead Space 2 is out.. "Reveal"! Caught it on Xbox last night and nearly went in to "schoolgirl" mode

Doesn't really show any game play or anything.. but kewl nonetheless. Can't wait for this game to come out :D

They aren't making it for the PC, so I'm naturally disinterested. The original was meh any way.

Now if they kept something like Mirror's Edge 2 from the PC, I'd be up in arms (no Dead Space pun intended).

Ctrl Alt Del 05-06-2010 11:28 AM

It's a nice thing they're doing a sequel despite the claims that the first game was a financial letdown. The first DS and Mirror's Edge were the first signs that EA was about to change from a rather conservative company, used to rehashing their series, to something new and better.

At any rate, I liked the first one and I'm probably not skipping the sequel.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Dead Space. Even though it is a sort of clone of Resident Evil, it had enough uniqueness to keep the player interested and I will definitely be playing it once it comes out on PC. :)

They are, as far as I know.

They are still "considering" it. Officially, it's only for the consoles. And if their port is as bad as Dead Space's, it isn't worth it any way.

Dread Advocate 05-06-2010 06:29 PM

although the news about the sequel itself is kinda old, the trailer isnt. anyways, i cant wait for the sequel. i was scared outta my mind when i played the demo, then i got the game and was hooked. Extraction would be the only reason for me to get a Wii

I absolutely love Dead Space, it's one of my most favourite games of this generation. I remember a thread in The Swamp where people were saying it's like Resident Evil 4 + Metroid Prime... and they were pretty spot on. With this, I actually ended up getting it for Christmas. So glad I got it cause aside from the co-op element of Resident Evil 5, it wasn't really doing much for me... Dead Space on the other hand provided me with better controls, a more interesting setting, and despite what Sabre has said, a more interesting story... after all, this is a "horror movie" type game, since when have these things ever had anything more than mediocre stories?

Also, I thought they did finally confirm Dead Space 2 for PC at the PAX East thing. Though I can't understand why people would want to play this game on PC in the first place :carms:

Oh and also, shameless plugs :p I wrote up some stuff on...

Dead Space - http://www.twilightlynk.com/2009/05/...ht-dead-space/
Deas Space: Extraction - http://www.twilightlynk.com/2009/11/...ce-extraction/
Dead Space: Downfall - http://www.twilightlynk.com/2010/05/...pace-downfall/

...because I like to mindlessly prattle on about Dead Space XD

Clive Barker's Undying, all the games in Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos, American McGee's Alice (though its horror status is debatable), the Penumbra series, F.E.A.R. was alright for what its worth, and Metro 2033.

It can be done, but most people want to make a committee-designed horror game and sell it for cash while calling it different from everything else. In Dead Space I saw a plethora of tired horror tropes I've seen over and over for the past two decades.

Though my real beef was with the bad port: the mouse was laggy and hitting the resume button on the main menu broke your save.

Because the mouse+keyboard setup always beats joysticks and joypads. :p

Never had any of those problems, or problems of any kind, but I guess it depends on the system. :(

Lynk Former 05-07-2010 04:08 AM

@ igyman: I liked being able to control Isaac and the camera at the same time with ease. Also, it's more fun to have the RE4 tankish style controls done with an analog stick.

@ sabre: Good. I like the ye old horror stuff, it's classic. Just as long as it isn't one of those teen horror movies. It may have been done before, but it was done well, and it's one of the few games that actually makes good use of a 5.1 sound system.

And yeah, I agree that the PC port of Dead Space is horrible. The PC version has a lot of lighting differences which changes the game completely from the console versions...

igyman 05-08-2010 04:19 PM

Well, I guess it depends on personal preference.

As for the PC version of Dead Space, the only problem I had with it was that I couldn't redefine the movement keys from WASD to Arrow Keys, but I solved that one rather quickly, otherwise, the game was pleasantly refreshing, despite elements borrowed from Doom, RE and Half-Life.

I know there's not a huge following of the game/series.. but curious if anyone is frothing at the mouth (like me) come this Tuesday the 25th? Or did you pre-order? ;)

Can't wait.

There's an interesting tie-in between TSL and Dead Space: Downfall . . .
The voice actors for Visas Marr (Kelly Hu) and Grey DeLisle (Handmaiden/Master Vash/Handmaiden's Sisters.)

I'll definitely be playing it, most likely sometime next week. I'm upgrading my PC tomorrow (after almost 3 years :D) and then I'll probably replay the original Dead Space before trying out the new one.

wow.. that's sweet looking! :D Where did you pre-order from? or does all the collector's edition have the force gun exclusive download? All I've been able to find is the one with the rivet gun or the hacker armor (might just be the nornal pre-order though)...

Lynk Former 01-23-2011 01:22 AM

I preordered it through EB Games down here in Australia (EB still exists down here cause we never had the GameStop brand down here).

The 360 and PC versions come with the replica Plasma Cutter + Unitology suit and Force gun, but the PS3 version comes with Dead Space Extraction and the Rivet Gun instead of the replica Plasma Cutter. As far as I know, the Unitology suit + force gun are available for all collector's edition versions of the game.

ChAiNz.2da 01-23-2011 01:28 AM

Then a'searching I must go! Replica Plasma cutter FTW ;)

Rumors abound (verified) that if you have ANY saved game, no matter the progress, on your system.. it unlocks the plasma cutter for Dead Space 2. Here's to hoping :D

Lynk Former 01-23-2011 01:32 AM

Actually it's specifically the oldskool design Plasma Cutter... they have a newer version of the Plasma Cutter in Dead Space 2 which works pretty much the same way as the old one but is just a newer model, so smaller and has a more sleek design.

Also, don't forget this: Dead Space 2 includes code for 'Ser Isaac of Clarke' armor in Dragon Age 2

Dude! Stuck at work at the moment.. gah! want.to.go.home.and.play :fist:

Lynk Former 01-25-2011 03:38 PM

It comes out tomorrow down here and then I have to wait till I get home from the uni enrolment I have to go to tomorrow as well.

ChAiNz.2da 02-17-2011 09:16 AM

Well after playing it straight for 4 completions (and loving every minute of it).. finally had to break away from it before I got sick of it. Worth every penny imo and I'm sure to revisit it in the near future ;)

On a sidenote.. not sure if anyone has been watching the Dead Space 2 "Your Mom Hates It" advertising series, but they brought 2 of the moms back for some hands on action. Great vid

Looks like mom got played....again. Kind of funny watching old/er people taking a crack at these games.

Lynk Former 02-17-2011 09:44 AM

I have played the hell out of Dead Space 2... played it three times over back to back... all I have left to do now is get 9 of the easy achievements that require the use of other weapons and finish the game in Hard Core mode to get the 10th achievement... oh and I cannot wait for the "Severed" DLC episode.

ChAiNz.2da 02-23-2011 12:24 PM

Same here. Although I have all the achievements except for the zealot/hardcore and the decompression one (20 enemies :whacked: )

Been stocking up on supplies for Zealot mode (yeah, I'm lame).. and have to find the time (or play hooky from work) to spend the day getting hardcore. Getting only 3 saves is gonna be rough, so I'd rather depend on the game's built in waypoints for the almost positive many deaths I'll suffer from since you can't carry over your Super-Isaac save game.. hehe :xp:

Yeah, I saw that last night, still can't wait lol.

Also, I wonder if they'll tell you what happened to McNiell since it only seems to be Lexine and Weller in the vid

Darth Payne 03-04-2011 09:52 AM

Well, got DS2 in the mail a couple of hours ago.

Oddly enough this is the first DS game i've tried.

I also kept saying to myself, 'C'mon, way into the future and no night vision?'

Isaac just broke out of a mental hospital and he uses engineering equipment. He is NOT some kind of super soldier. Plus, he does have the spotlights on his weapons which makes for a much more fun experience... especially when you reload in the middle of a battle and the spotlight turns off when you KNOW a necromorph is about to lung at you... :p

Taak Farst 03-05-2011 08:45 AM

ive been having a look it this. and guys, i havent played Dead Space. is it worth getting DS2? if so ill probably rent it and try it out

Yep, even if you haven't played the first game this one can be reccomended. There is a video that recaps the first game you can watch before starting a new game.

Sabretooth 03-05-2011 09:46 AM

If you don't play Dead Space Isaac will curb-stomp your skull

Darth Payne 03-05-2011 09:51 AM

Btw, am i the only one that was reminded of Halo when you get to the ending itself? (not the final boss battle, but the final cutscene and that little audio clip after the credits)

Lynk Former 03-05-2011 06:58 PM

@ Darth Payne: Yes.

@ Taak Farst: Play the first Dead Space first and then Dead Space 2.

Canderis 03-06-2011 11:57 AM

I just got it yesterday. Playing this game at 2 AM makes this game extremely scary.

Darth Payne 03-06-2011 08:49 PM

Lol, try playing it at 2am with all the lights turned off.

Damn near gave myself a heart attack a couple of times.

Did that. Why would anyone play this with the lights on?

Boba Rhett 03-07-2011 06:10 PM

Mostly to avoid blasting my cat with a high powered stream of terror piss.

Darth Payne 03-08-2011 12:01 AM

After playing through the game a few times, i find myself looking forward to Dead Space 3...4...5...
