Toonstruck 2 news
Just seen this over on adventuregamers and thought this may interest fans of this underrated classic;

originally posted by toonstrucktwo

"For all of you who were/are fans of the original, the unparalleled, Toonstruck the tremendously underrated DOS point-and-click adventure starring none other than Christopher Lloyd and Ben Stein and featuring the voice talents of Tress MacNeille (The Simpsons, Futurama), Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson), Dom DeLuise (many a Mel Brooks and Don Bluth film), Tim Curry (Rocky Horror) among many others, today is your lucky day, hopefully to be followed by even luckier days to come.

Music director Keith Arem, the rights holder for the Toonstruck and the unreleased material which was to become the second half of the game but was cut before the final release due to software limitations at the time (this was 1996), has expressed interest in dusting the cobwebs off the ill-fated sequel and releasing it for several platforms pending sufficient fan support. The entirety of the correspondence detailing this new and exciting information can be found at this thread inside the Toonstruck 2 Fan Project forum; the only corner of the internet concerned with a Toonstruck sequel until about three hours ago."

To quote Mr. Arem:

"...While the game was internationally critically acclaimed, the game did
not receive the sales we hoped, and the second half was never released.
Now that my career has developed, I would like to re-release an updated
version of Toonstruck to include the 2nd half of the game (iPad, online,
etc), but I would need tremendous fan support to justify its release..."

It's more like a director's cut than a sequel.

The Tingler 08-04-2010 10:05 PM

God I hope so. I really want to play this game. I hope it turns up on GOG.

Threepwood4life 08-05-2010 03:57 AM

I posted this on GOGs forums as theres quite a fanbase for the game on there which may help get a few more signatures hopefully. This should be on the front page so it helps gain more attention. I know its not a Lucas title but people should know what Toonstruck is and how great it was and its excellent that Keith Arem is willing to re-release it with the second half of the game that was originally cut so we can all experience the real ending and how it should have originally played out.

Threepwood4life 08-06-2010 02:59 AM

Looks like its gradually increasing as theres now over 200 signatures, still hope more will sign it.

Threepwood4life 08-12-2010 07:31 AM

Into the 1,200s now, hope more will sign it , it may not be a LucasArts title but at least give it a chance if you haven't played Toonstruck this is an oppotunity and we could see it get released finally onto

Thrik 08-12-2010 08:24 AM

Ahh go on then. I have no interest in it but seeing as this is one of few petitions that might actually result in something I'll lend my support. ;

Longcat 08-20-2010 08:44 AM

Thank you:) There are some of us who have an affectionate relationship with game and would love to see this become a reality. I never could understand why not more people liked this game. I and my friends love it.

ThunderPeel2001 09-08-2010 08:07 AM

Holy crap!

Some more news: we've opened a livejournal community! Everyone is invited to join!

i think this is fake...i really don't know what proves that this is true? maybe a group has made this PETITION, so they get all this money.

I had concerns about it as well at first, but it is true. I emailed Keith Arem, and he replied that the petition is valid and that he does own all the assets of Toonstruck, and that he's looking for fans to show their support so he can use it to convince investors to invest in the project. You can read his whole reply at my blog here.

Also, the money doesn't go to the petition owner. The organizer of the petition recommends that you do not donate any money at the PetitionSpot petition. He does not know where the donated money goes, and all requests for information about the matter with the founder of PetitionSpot has been so far unanswered.

So, is it already finished? It sounds like a similar development schedule to DeathSpank. Completed mostly together, but split near the end. I can only assume it is not finished, as GOG would just pick it up and sell it. It doesn't have to be sold in stores. If it is not finished, just pick up some coders on ags forums, or such, and get it done.

Longcat 10-18-2010 03:54 PM

all the graphics, video and sound are finished afaIu. but the game itself isn't. it would require scripting the whole second part of the game.

Spiketheclown 11-09-2010 04:22 AM

More news: we've reached the point of 3000 signatures!!!

Longcat 11-09-2010 07:30 AM

wow. only 47 000 to go ...

Spiketheclown 11-09-2010 10:28 AM

I don't think that's absolutely nesessary to get all 50000. The petitions for the Silver Lining and Sam & Max 2 were both successful (the latter one reached its goal in an indirect way), although the former one got only 3024 signatures out of 100000. So I believe that 10000 or about so will be more than enough.

Keith Arem just posted this over on the official Toonstruck 2 facebook page;

Hey All -

Thanks for your support and dedication. We sincerely appreciate your devotion to our project, and we hope to do you proud. It may be some time before you start to hear official announcements, but we are hoping your support helps raise awareness and confidence for an updated re-release of Toonstruck.

As you are... aware, much of the game was never released due to time and budget constraints. We are evaluating the cost and time to incorporate these assets into the initial re-release. In the coming months, I will do my best to get you behind the scenes peeks into the development process.

Thanks again for your continued support, and I hope to provide you with more news soon.

Best Regards -

Keith Arem

Monkey Mania 11-12-2010 07:38 PM

It's sounds like they're actually going to start working on it.

Longcat 11-13-2010 10:58 AM

Which would be nice. I'm still in wait and see mode though:)

Ascovel 11-15-2010 08:46 AM

That message from Keith Arem sounds really promising. I really hope they'll manage to somehow put that new/old content in.

Spiketheclown 01-08-2011 06:26 AM

Happy New Year everyone! A couple of goodies for you!

Threepwood4life 03-04-2011 07:00 PM

Bit of info from Keith on Facebook

Hey all -

Just to add to Drew's post...We are not affiliated with PetitionSpot and are not asking or collecting any money from fans.

Please keep up your support for Toonstruck, and thanks for your patience and keeping it alive. More news to come!

Threepwood4life 05-09-2011 07:53 AM

Another update from Keith but very great news

'We're currently working on an enhanced re-release of TS1, but we may add some of the TS2 content if we can afford to do it. We'll likely re-build our fanbase, and then move onto TS2 next.

More to come!'

Cyrus7 05-09-2011 01:06 PM

Cool :thmbup1:

Longcat 05-09-2011 03:40 PM

Thumbs up!

Threepwood4life 05-10-2011 01:53 AM

Keith has given details on when the official announcement will be made;

Hey all -

We're still quite a ways off, but I'm hoping we can make an official announcement by Comic Con or later this summer!

We appreciate your enthusiasm! Keep the dream alive! Smile

Threepwood4life 06-02-2011 02:39 PM

Just read this on the Facebook page from a Trevor Greer who is involved the enhanced edition

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I have good news for those of you who are looking forward to the re-enhanced version of Toonstruck.
My father and Keith both worked at Virgin (Interactive?) and they are overseeing the project. As well as this, I play a part of this project.
The re-enhanced version is beginning to gain momentum and we are in the process of gathering all the old data from the original source code.
We hope to have stuff for Comicon this July, so check out the PCB Productions booth at the convention!

Anyone here going to Comic Con???

Threepwood4life 06-02-2011 06:42 PM

Trevor has just answered some fan questions one in particular telling which platform its coming out on first;

1. I believe our current goal lies with a handheld version of the game. But, depending on its success, repackaging it back for PC and Mac isn't too far off.

2. What I mean by "Re-enhanced" is that we are taking all the old backgrounds and sound files and upping their resolution to match the ratio of iPad, iPhone etc.

3. We don't have any current plans to send it off for a windows platform at the moment.

4. While it may be going for Apple products, im not sure if we will have it for Android. Time will tell.

5. Once I find out our booth number for Comicon, I will be sure to let you guys know so you can come on by! I will probably be there helping out all (5?) days of the Convention at the booth.

So it looks like a iOS/handheld release first then on PC and MAC, this has happened before especially with the remastered Broken Swords.

More news: the Toonstruck 2 fanproject has released a PAK extractor, with which you can find lots of Toonstruck 2 materials  Some examples of what you may discover:

Monkey Mania 04-02-2012 08:51 PM

I bet this will get made if kickstarted.

Threepwood4life 04-04-2012 12:36 PM

I've been reading on The Toonstruck two petition page on facebook it sounds like that Toonstruck will be getting the Kickstarter treatment very soon as the original team want to get the remastered edition with all the cut content that was originally split for the sequel released and hopefully go into production on Toonstruck 2 if its successful.

ThunderPeel2001 04-07-2012 02:25 PM

They should hurry up!

Monkey Mania 04-26-2012 01:25 AM

Any news?

It's still alive, getting there but slowly. They are still sorting some legal issues but looks like they will be sorted soon and its looking more like they want to repackage the 1st game and start some sort of Kickstarter account.

Monkey Mania 05-18-2012 02:16 PM

What's the latest?

Monkey Mania 06-12-2012 01:52 PM

Now we just need this and my life will be complete!

Kolzig 08-15-2012 10:22 AM

It's great that ScummVM supports Toonstruck these days. I should really get on that mission to play the game. All I've ever seen of it is a demo I had ages ago in the 90's.

I've had the game for a long time, but seems impossible to get it running on modern computers with normal methods.
