Give LF's TOR Guilds a name!

TOR will be upon us by the end of this year (we hope!), and it's always been our intention to have an Official LF Guild, or two, if we get enough people playing on each side.

We have set two up, LF Knights and LF Sith Knights, but these were placeholders we set up when the Guild program launched back in March, and I think you'll agree that those names aren't particularly inspiring, or even original - let's face it, they suck.

Which is why we want your suggestions - you guys make LF what it is, and as this is going to be a guild for everyone on LF, it's only right that you all get to have a say and play a part in naming the guild.

There are only a few guidelines -
  1. To keep things manageable, try to stick to one name each, or one name for each faction.
  2. No offensive names - that should be obvious, really.
  3. Assuming we get enough suggestions, this thread will close to new submissions on July 31st, and then we'll put the names to a vote.

We look forward to your suggestions!

Miltiades 06-11-2011 04:41 PM

For the Sith faction, I was thinking of LFN Purebloods. I have LFN Nobles in mind for the Republic side, though I'm not as happy with that one. Alternately, dropping LFN in favor of Ahtonauts could make the names more interesting (Ahtonaut Purebloods and Nobles), but the Swampies may object to that. :)

For the Jedi, I move the faction is called: The Church of the Extraordinary Flying Antipope

For the Sith: The Order of the Unspellable Porphyrogennetoi

And the great thing is, they're both a mainly Medieval phenomenon! Except for that flying bit.

Replace "Flying" with "Frying"? Fryers are a religious rank, right?

Darth Avlectus 06-12-2011 12:59 AM

Old Republic Phalanx
Because we're a sort of tight knit bunch here at LF even among other SW fans. Skeptics of LF have said their part but LF has continued to stand and we still get people who join us.

Republica Stormfront
Those among the LF band here who are for the republic strike me as the kind to be at the forefront of a major war effort against anyone who may threaten the well being of their beloved society. Whether on the front lines or behind the scenes acting in a more cerebral manner, they love their republic.
Also "Republica" is the name of a street on the planet Coruscant. There are those among the Republic who felt the loss and injustice at the sacking of Coruscant, now looking to take back the capitol from the Sith because they believe the Republic cannot coexist with the Sith Empire.

Sith Shadowbloods
Sounds kind of like a mysterious organization in the same way as clans of ninjas and exiled samurai were.

694th Imperial Covenant
The number inspired by
1) the wavelength 694nm which is in the red region of the visible spectrum, known line of the lasing wavenength for Cr:Ruby lasers. Red is the sith lightsaber color of preference.
2) There are varying numbers of legions of Palpatine's empire during the original trilogy.
3) Covenant just sounds like it would work.

"Friars" actually.

Sabretooth 06-12-2011 02:00 AM

For the Jedi:
Socialist Working Knights of the People's Republic of the Leninist-Engelsist Soviet [SWKPROLES]

For the Sith:
Socialist Working Knights of the People Of the Soviet Socialist Empire [SWKPOSSE]

With a semantic and spelling difference you sure fooled me. Especially since you're a rather non believer. :)

Dude, wtf? Are you trying to blow our cover, comrade?

Sometimes you make me think you're an espionage agent for the U.S. :swear:

Darth InSidious 06-20-2011 10:31 AM

Wait, Alkonium doesn't believe in the Extraordinary Flying Antipope?!

This seems uncomfortably close to the real life Stormfront. They certainly believe that they're at the forefront of a major war against those who threaten their society.

Unfortunately, they define 'those who threaten their society' as Jewish people and anyone who isn't white.

Probably not something an LF guild would want to remind people of.

Hm. Certainly wasn't my intention. :( I was referring to the storm of the war.

Something unique and concise or at least with a nice ring to it is my thought.

I'm trying to come up with something but most everything is too unoriginal or canny.

Saber is playing with the idea of acronyms.

League Advent Surge to Empower the Republic? [LASER] :p
It'd be a laegue, at a new beginning (the advent), doing it in earnest with enough passion it'd be like a surging wave, inspiring others, and the Republic part should be obvious.

Astor 07-22-2011 06:43 AM

Come on, guys, there's got to be some more ideas floating around!

Char Ell 07-22-2011 11:17 AM

I like Miltiades ideas about using LFN terms

Republic: Ahtonaut Alliance

Sith: Holowan Hackers

adamqd 07-22-2011 01:21 PM

The New Power Generation

Astor 07-27-2011 07:28 AM

I forgot who suggested it (I think it was Mav) but what about The Order of the Hairless Wookiee?

Jae Onasi 07-27-2011 03:56 PM

Knights of Ahto or Ahto Knights for the Republic side.
Ahto Empire or Ahto Sith for the Sith.

Lynk Former 07-27-2011 06:50 PM

I didn't realise LucasForums was renamed AhtoForums...

I don't recall that... but I don't doubt that it could have been me :xp:

Well while I don't necessarily agree or disagree with an Ahto-centric theme for guild names, I do know that I most certainly do not want "LF" or "LFN" to be any part of the guild name.

I don't have any names to pitch atm but I'll try to think of some, especially during my long trek home tomorrow.

Lynk Former 07-28-2011 01:42 AM

@ Mav: agreed, but that wasn't what I was suggesting.

That said, at this stage we're never going to have a guild simply because we can't come up with a name good enough when all we really needed was something simple like "Scions of LFN" or "LFN Knights" or whatever...

Whatever we choose is gonna be LAME so may as well just choose something now and get it over with so we can set it up and get people on board.

Well I thought that was the point of the "placeholder" guilds/names that were set up way back when...

So I figured we had already established that there's going to be an LF guild and that people that want in should say so and that this thread was just about... refining the guild name... /shrug

Lynk Former 07-28-2011 04:14 AM

lol oh yeah... why haven't I joined one of those yet? XD

I guess I just don't have faith that someone will come up with something awesome... or at least something that doesn't sound like a joke name...

Everyone said they sucked.

You could always suggest one yourself. :p

Anyway, some names taken from and inspired by the Star Wars universe -

Red Watch
Army of Light
Bantha Squad
The Irregulars
Tython Rangers
Nebula Flight
Red Legion
Sun Guard
Steel Squadron
Wildfire

And there's tons more, but they we the least 'lame' sounding ones. :)

@ Astor: I did when we first started this discussion in private before you posted this thread :p

Also...

[7:37:43 PM] Mav: so LFTor guild, I'm thinking "Scruffy Nerf Herders"
[7:38:42 PM] Lynk: lol better than the ones thought of so far
[7:39:36 PM] Mav: our slogan will be "We shoot first"
[7:40:50 PM] Lynk: what about the empire side?
[7:49:26 PM] Mav: Blood Orange Bantha Poo Doo's
[7:49:37 PM] Mav: that's my Sith Guild name
[7:49:50 PM] Lynk: Wild Bantha Chasers
[7:50:28 PM] Lynk: or Wild Bantha Hunters
[7:50:29 PM] Mav: Persistent Ewok Genociders
[7:51:16 PM] Mav: The Droids You're Looking For
[7:51:28 PM] Lynk: lol that's a good one

So according to Mav

Republic: Scruffy Nerf Herders
Empire: The Droids You're Looking For

adamqd 07-28-2011 11:50 AM

Dark Star Hellions. (A guild name I've used in other games for a while now)
The Syndicate.
Koros Raiders.
Ahto City Thunder.
The Nal Hutta Heat.
Slowly, Slowly, catchy Kowakian monkey-lizard.
Zealots of Ziost (Darkside)

For the empire I like: Imperialist Basterds

I went ahead and reserved the name, just in case.

Jeff 08-10-2011 04:03 PM

I support Scruffy Nerf Herders for Republic guild, and I like mimartin's idea Imperialist Basterds for Empire.

Mav 08-16-2011 10:45 PM

So... with the new Guild beta test invites going out, it'd be nice if we could decide on a name and see if we get enough members to have a shot at the guild beta testing...

Jeff 08-16-2011 10:48 PM

Agreed. I have went ahead and joined Scruffy Nerf Herders - http://www.swtor.com/guilds/149705/s...-nerf-herders/

What is the general opinion on this name?

Taak Farst 08-16-2011 10:54 PM

I would if it was EU - but waa :(

Mav 08-16-2011 11:28 PM

I don't see any reason you couldn't play on a US server since BioWare has already stated they're not region blocking IPs, so the only downside would be lag.

Well you can still play on US servers, it's just up to you if you want to deal with the time difference. Not sure if there would be enough interest to have separate guilds.

Taak Farst 08-17-2011 02:21 AM

Mav + Jeff - Didn't know that, thought it would work like WoW. That's cool. Most likely join this guild then

Miltiades 08-17-2011 09:34 AM

Can't we put up a vote? At least, that was the intention from the start, looking at Astor's first post. In any case, I quite like mimi's Imperialist Basterds idea.

adamqd 08-17-2011 11:47 AM

Yea I played on a US server for years in SWG, lets just say I saw the bullet coming, after it had excited my head, plus everyones just getting ready to play as I'm overdosing on my 15th coffee. EU server for me, definitely not playing a US server.

There are a lot of Europeans on here, so there could be. But I may be willing to play on a US server, I don't know, I don't have any experience with this kind of stuff.

I wouldn't mind putting everything up to a vote, but I didn't start the thread, so yeah, I just want to try get things together because I'll take all the extra shots at a beta as I can get. It'd also be advisable for all the fence sitters out there, free demo at the game.

mimartin 08-17-2011 04:55 PM

Well someone can rattle Astor's cage (send him a PM). I'll skype him to get this thing together. I haven't even pre-ordered the game yet. Was waiting to see when it is coming before jumping off the fence.
