LucasArts trademarks Star Wars 1313

From shacknews.com:

Lucas plans on launching yet another extension of his Star Wars franchise. Last week, the company bought a number of domains regarding a project likely to be titled "Star Wars 1313." The company now owns 1313starwars.com and starwars1313.com, which has many fans wondering what this mysterious project could be.

Whatever it is, it will be a video game, new evidence reveals.

Fusible, which first discovered the domain registrations theorized 1313 could refer to a movie based on Boba Fett. "CT-1313 was once an alias used by Boba Fett on Aargau when he was confronted by a clone trooper," the site noted.

However, additional information unearthed by Siliconera suggests that the project will not be a film, but a video game instead. Lucas filed a trademark with the USPTO earlier this month--and the trademark notes that it is for use as "video game software" and "entertainment services provided on-line."

Whatever 1313 is, it will likely be an online (multiplayer?) video game. Could this be a Boba Fett game--or something different altogether?

I think I probably know how most of us feel about LucasArts and games lately, but anyone think this will turn into anything decent?

Salzella 05-07-2012 04:46 PM

Erm, nah.

But seriously though, who knows? We must be due a decent SW game soon enough right? ....Right? Can't see what appears to amount to an online sequel to the very-average 'Bounty Hunter' being the franchises' saving grace though.

Alexrd 05-07-2012 04:58 PM

Online? Don't want it.

Taak Farst 05-07-2012 05:12 PM

-sigh-

This better not be that open world RPG we've heard about.

Next one has to be terrible because the last one is great. :thmbup1:

Indeed. It would be a waste to be online.

The Old Republic? ...Meh, I discount online games, and also games that cost a bleedin' fortune... :¨:

I also discount online games. Talking from the perspective of a guy who never liked the Force Unleashed games, OR Star/Dance Wars for Kinect, I think we're due a GOOD Star Wars game. This, however, won't be it, I don't think.

I'm holding hope that the open world RPG is still happening, and that it isn't this. Whatever this is.

Alexrd 05-07-2012 07:39 PM

Well, for what is worth, I count the first TFU as a good game.

Samnmax221 05-07-2012 07:57 PM

I won't hold my breath over this being anything good.

With TOR I have spent less money on games since December than I can remember in a 5 month period. Only other game I bought was ME3, so most months instead of paying $60 for a new game, I've only spent $15 for TOR. So it all depends on how you look at it. Yes, I spent $15 more on TOR, but it saved me $45.

However to topic, I expect nothing, but I expected nothing from TOR too and was happily surprise with what I got. Pretty sure it will not be a MMO as even LucasArts isn’t stupid enough to compete with itself (I hope), so I will hope for a RPG with multiplayer element similar to ME3, but expect something along the lines of Battlefront Lego Clone Wars Unleashed with extreme disco Wookiee.

I only buy like one game every six months, which makes it prohibitively priced, for me at least :p

Could be a SW take on the FPS - instead of going for WoW's market, they go for CoD's. Would tie in with the 'boba fett' thing more as well, though that link is preeeetty tenuous to be fair.

Blix 05-07-2012 11:10 PM

I'd rather have a Shadows of the Empire update, but that's just me.

A Boba Fett game in the vein of Shadows might be pretty cool if that's what they're going for, but at this point who knows what they're doing.

Boba Rhett 05-08-2012 12:36 AM

Could the 1313 just be referring to a release date? 5/13/13 or some such?

I wouldn't mind seeing a redone SotE.

Sabretooth 05-08-2012 02:47 AM

It doesn't seem likely that LucasArts would trademark 'Star Wars 1313' when they're just talking about a release date for something. It's almost certainly a title, however awkward it sounds.

This. It's probably another Clone Wars or TFU style game. Or maybe some kind of update for TOR.

hahaha yeah same thing happened when i used to play SWG, i didn't buy games for like a whole year, literally saved me hundreds.

Taak Farst 05-08-2012 07:30 PM

Not everyone looks at it that way though, because you're essentially paying $15/£8.99 a month for the same content over and over and over again, which isn't worth it in my opinion. Logins to SWTOR are in decline, and they have lost 400k subs in the last three months alone. I don't see SWTOR staying for much longer as it is. It will either go free to play or evaporate into MMO space.

Have you looked at the history of other MMOs? My guess is no, because this is normal and was expected as it has happened with every MMO ever launched with anywhere near the hype of TOR. 1.3 million is still nothing to sneeze at and better than the norm.

Also can't speak for other MMOs, but with TOR you are not playing the same content over and over. There are at least 8 different storylines and they have already added new flashpoints, ops and dailies. So yes, you can do the same thing over and over if you want, but you don't have to. You can do something completely different and you can even do different stuff with your friends and guild mates.

I thought about a date, too. Maybe it's a teaser site for 1/3/2013.

See now I fully believe that LA could and potentially WOULD remake Shadows sometime in the future as there would be a sizeable profit and they could do it as a 15th/18th/whatever anniversary thing. So why the hell can't SE remake FFVII - how would it bankrupt them? (offtopic post is offtopic I know but this discussion got me thinking).

That's the problem, I buy just about every game they put out good or bad, then pass my own judgment, too many bad ones here lately.

Seems like we'll know what the new Star Wars game is soon enough. SpikeTV is giving an exclusive look at the game on May 31.

No way it can be anything else. No way. LA's return to glory begins May 31st!!!

Yeeeaaah baby!

Sabretooth 05-26-2012 11:23 AM

It's going to be a new franchise, so no, it's not going to be any of those. :p

I'm just hoping this isn't going to be a repeat of TFU...

Astor 05-26-2012 11:54 AM

I keep thinking that with that title, maybe they're doing something completely out of left field, like a middle ages, sword and sorcery take on Star Wars, but then I realised that this is LucasArts, and as cool as that idea might be, it would probably bomb.

DarthParametric 05-26-2012 12:41 PM

Could be related to the live action TV series. They've said before the series will focus on new characters, so this could be some sort of prequel type lead in.

adamqd 05-26-2012 01:25 PM

I hate to be a naysayer, but this last few years have been draining... a want for a true Star Wars game, that doesn't apologise for being niche or appealing to a more esoteric fanbase, has taken its toll on my fandom.

I fear this will be another multi-platform-TV deal-extravaganza for kids, with little Star Wars feel but massive monetary returns.

There will be action figures, calenders, mugs and T-shirts, but there will not be a Forum dedicated to it in nine years.

Titanius Anglesmith 05-26-2012 09:38 PM

I won't be dwelling on what this could be, so as to not get my hopes up once again. The less I hope for, the less I'll be disappointed in the end.

This isn't to say I think LucasArts is "beyond saving," but I'm certainly not expecting anything noteworthy.

Lynk Former 05-26-2012 10:30 PM

...I will wait and see...

Of course, but LucasArts hardly stands alone in that regard. All AAA games these days are dross designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator and yield the maximum return. As I have said before, you can't really fault companies (especially public listed ones) from a business perspective. They are naturally focused on maximising profits to the exclusion of most everything else. But it sure does suck as a consumer. Well at least one of the http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/o...ic/monocle.png ones anyway. :D

Lynk Former 05-27-2012 02:00 AM

Of course, not all companies are like that and there are folks who play a larger variety of games that don't get caught in a rut playing essentially the same games over and over... that, and if an AAA game isn't all that great then it's kind of obvious that it's not an AAA to begin with ;)
