How active is the community?

Well, it's going on a decade now since KOTOR 1 came out and I was just wondering how active the community still is and how long you guys think it will be. I think it will be active for at least 2 or 3 more years seeing as there's at least 3 total conversions still being made but tell me what you think.

Lynk Former 07-05-2012 06:49 AM

WE HAVE A COMMUNITY?! WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME?!

Taak Farst 07-05-2012 11:48 AM

The forums at LF in general seem to be dying, at least to me, but I'm hopefully wrong.

Boba Rhett 07-05-2012 01:15 PM

Fingers crossed that LucasArts starts making games again.

It is. >_>

Darth Avlectus 07-05-2012 03:54 PM

Weeeeell, we could all reamain in contact if nothing else. True, LF is not as active as it once was and it has seen busier days. Still, it's lively enough that I notice a few people a week post in the various sub-forums. The Swamp seems tightly knit, I mean they all have contact with one another outside LF. I haven't been on skype in forever. Social networks...meh. I'd like to be more involved in XBL, Steam, and part of me wishes to be on PSN but that's probably not going to happen.

Everyone who is somewhat loyal to this place sticks around and posts threads and posts and such. We still talk about vidya occasionally, but yeah, if LucasArts actually released games more often that were worth talking about this place would be a lot better off.

Samuel Dravis 07-05-2012 09:24 PM

Technically it's a zombie! Fortunately I like zombies.

Lynk Former 07-05-2012 10:57 PM

I like to shoot zombies.

Blix 07-05-2012 11:06 PM

K1 is a classic and people who have played it and enjoyed it back in 2003 will surely continue to play it in the days to come, if not for the nostalgia of fond memories but because of the fun of it. I'm not saying that there is still this huge cult following even today but dedicated gamers won't shelf KOTOR simply because it's not "hip" anymore.

Lynk Former 07-05-2012 11:59 PM

Maybe something like this will spur a little more traffic for a short period of time as everyone gets their nostalgia high.

I can't speak for this subforum because I'm mostly a lurker here, but back in my Fandalorian days the Republic Commando subforum was fairly active. Five posters or so, but still fairly active.

adamqd 07-06-2012 03:48 AM

I'll continue to visit, argue and post in Birthday threads until they turn this thing off :)

Pho3nix 07-06-2012 04:02 AM

I think people just grew up too, you tend not to spend as much time online as you did back in high school. Or at least that's true for me... :p

Lynk Former 07-06-2012 04:44 AM

Damn people and their growing up ruining fun for everyone, having to work and do responsible stuff, having to pay bills and stuff and then getting suckered into banging some chick, having some kids, paying for the kids, working yourself to death and giving up all of your hopes and dreams when you were younger, convincing yourself that this really dull, boring life is what you really wanted but it really isn't and you feel cold and empty inside as your family keeps you on life support even though it's your time to go and they just leave you there as a husk of an empty man, like some kind of zombie that can't move and doesn't have the will to go on but keep going on and on and on...

...what was I saying?

I didn't get the Internet until I was 24, so I got all my Real life ridiculousness out of the way beforehand :)

Sabretooth 07-06-2012 04:51 AM

I love how the Selkath is in the foreground like he's the most important character in the series. Selkaths rule!

adamqd 07-06-2012 05:20 AM

Looks fan made to me, I'd of thought Kreia would be on the cover, or maybe a whole new cover all together.

Sabretooth 07-06-2012 05:26 AM

Eh it's mostly formula-based design:

1 good human
1 good alien
2 good droids
1 big bad human villain
1 small bad human villain
1 big bad unknown race villain
1 good ship
A bunch of evil ships
1 dangerous-looking planet in the background

Xinaith 07-06-2012 05:37 AM

I was talking more about the modding community.

Sorry, I'm Tyvark, I've logged into the wrong account and now I can't seem to get out of it.

Sabretooth 07-06-2012 08:32 AM

Aaaand I'm in before the ban.

Argh, logged into my Sabretooth account for that last one. Sorry guys. :xp:

@myself (in Sabretooth form): That Selkath freaks me out.

It looks like something I would've made actually... none of you outside of certain staff members have seen it, but at one time I created a site design for starwarsknights.net that unfortunately never got implemented because of lack of interest/motivation/whatever which had me combining elements of covers of both KotOR I and II.

Of course, it wasn't as extensive as this collection cover, but I didn't have much to work with while whoever made that cover obviously had the source material.

Darth Avlectus 07-08-2012 12:07 AM

That is one sweet cover art.

*~*Darth pOOba*~* 07-08-2012 03:08 PM

Our situation kinda reminds me of Cars :D how only the faithful few stick it out.
Well I know I'm new here but Ive been lurking around this place for years so I do plan on stickin around. And maybe with the release of 1313 this place will see a little more action.

Lynk Former 07-08-2012 03:26 PM

If 1313 ends up being mod friendly that'd be even better for us since that's where the real staying power is in these forums... here's hoping anyway...

JesusIsGonnaOwnSatan 07-09-2012 04:25 AM

Dat nostalgia...

It's a pretty nice looking cover, though the inclusion of that Selkath is as stupid as it's inclusion in the original K1 cover. Should be Kreia, or anyone else that actually means something in the games (preferably K2, to balance Bastila's presence).

I've been meaning to play through K1 and 2 one of these days. Maybe after the complete Mass Effect trilogy playthrough that I'm about to do.

Nedak 08-05-2012 05:03 AM

Haven't come on here in a long while. It's too bad the traffic has died down so much.

I don't go on forums too much anymore (unless you count Reddit).

This forum was actually the first forum I ever went on when I was about 13 or 14 (I'm 20 now) and it made me addicted to other forums for years. I hope it sticks around.

Have a good one.

Suaidan 08-05-2012 09:36 AM

Seems decently active i have little trouble finding a conversation or an answer to my question in the KoToR section and ToR sections for sure. Xwing section seems active also as well as community section.

Too true. Mods have been the main reason I can still play both K1 & K2 at this point. Too bad Mass Effect 1-3 couldn't have been modded to the same extent.

thejman217 08-06-2012 01:06 AM

Man, it was a 1 in 1000 odds that I discovered something to make my life worthwhile hehe. In about '05 (I'm fifteen now) my aunt took me to Walmart to pick out a game. She said pick anyone you like. I was (and still am) really into star wars, and I saw kotor1. I thought it had a pretty good cover, so I thought why not? (but the selkath, REALLY???) so I bought it. Turned out to be the best game I ever played. Since I was seven when I first played it, it took me FOREVER to finish it (dark side, hehe, I didn't know any better back then XP), but it is still the best game I have ever played to date.

TriggerGod 08-10-2012 12:15 AM

Wait, this place still exists?

Well, color me surprised.

e: near the top of the front page and 3 days old? my god

LDR 08-10-2012 12:21 AM

Wait, what still exists?

Something exists?! What is it?

Lynk Former 08-10-2012 01:19 AM

I should be more surprised than you youngin' who joined only a few years ago. Come see me whatn you get the 10_ year badge :p

LF will survive... it's like some kind of zombie vampire warewolf alien wizard that just refuses to die.

LDR 08-10-2012 01:38 AM

Coming from the guy who was incredulous when he figured out that we have a community. :spin:

Lynk Former 08-10-2012 02:03 AM

This isn't a community, this is a zombie nation.
