Your Favorite Sabers

Okay, so it's become fairly clear that I can't visit this site without doing something. And the more I play TSLRCM, the more I realize we need a sweet new mod. Not another content mod - a peripheral system.

So, I have an idea. It's a saber mod. I have everything mapped out. I know what I need to do. The issue is doing it.

So I have an experiment I want to try. Maybe it'll revolutionize Kotor modding, maybe it won't. Only time will tell.

I will be recruiting (although 'recruiting' is not right word)

I need people who can model lightsabers. (There is no inbetween. You can or you can't)
I need people who will not object to grunt work (Don't worry, I'm making a tool that will ease your troubles).
I need someone with a keen sense of narrative (Good spelling, good at writing item descriptions)

You will need to download some tools.

For right now, I need to know what lightsabers need to be made. I need suggestions

USM sabers are welcome (I have permission from Chainz.2da to use USM sabers)

HOTOR sabers are welcome.

Anything you can find on the internet is welcome.

Keep in mind I want to keep with the ornate saber style of the Old Republic. And varied styles are a must. The idea is to have a saber type for each Force Class (9).

Also, I will be using Nihilus' saber from my mod, and I currently have a Darth Sion saber which I will post later.

Eventually, we wil get to Each Jedi Master and Sith Lord saber, but not right now. I want to see how these 9 will play out first.

This is ultimately to get an idea of the saber designs you, the end user, will want to see. In the meantime, with all of this brainstorming, I will be working in the shadows so we can start working right away.

So... .GO!!!!!!

No, certainly not impossible, and frankly that's a good recommendation... as long as it's not a saber model that anyone in SW canon currently possesses.

If I'm a stickler for anything, it's grammar and spelling. If you'll have me, I should be able to do it, but it would depend on time. When do you want to get down into the nitty gritty of making this thing? I'll have the most time in May and June, July onwards gets pretty insane.

Depends on what sabers we can brainstorm by then. I'm hoping mid May would be easy enough to have all said descriptions planned and written out.

Sithspecter 04-22-2013 10:34 PM

I'm in. I'm sending you a PM.

I'm with you on the grammar and spelling, but unfortunately don't have the time to help with that.

An example of me being a stickler: I'm reading a game guide off of gamefaqs and correcting or re-writing parts as I am trying to read it to play the dang game.

Haha, yup, I'm the same way with Wikipedia. It makes it a little more difficult to actually read anything, doesn't it?

Qui-Don Jorn 04-23-2013 05:40 AM

Oh well, there goes the project I was working on. No biggie, I dont have the time for it anyway.

DarthParametric 04-23-2013 06:30 AM

I have a few miscellaneous non-canon hilts that I did for requests years ago that you can use if you want (as long as you credit me):

https://dpmods.bg2redux.com/tsl_sabers_misc.html

https://dpmods.bg2redux.com/k1_sabers_misc.html

I probably have a bunch of half-finished ones laying around as well. Need to dig through my assorted crap pile.

bunjeeman 05-03-2013 01:59 AM

Have you gone to DeviantArt? JamesVillanueva has done a great amount of hi-res comissions for people, and I think they would look good.

bunjeeman 05-03-2013 02:02 AM

Also, a wider variety of colours would be nice. And make the red colour a little more red, as it currently looks to close to orange.

I asked that guy about this a while ago and here is what he said:

Quote:

My models would not translate to a gaming platform because of the high poly count of the spline objects. This an example of my construction of my sabers http://risiavyle.deviantart.com/gall...28578#/d2qtcyy . I created them more for still renders rather than animation. Also at this time I have no plans to sell or trade any of the models/meshes that I create. In the past I have had problems with some people who I traded with selling the meshes that I created on their or other websites claiming they had made them.

Still serves as good inspiration. It's come down to that I'm going to have to model all of the hilts myself (at least for the base mod).

I already have 4 done (2 were already done before.) It doesn't take long at all to even get a saber modeled.

It's the texturing/UV Mapping that'll take up the time.

VarsityPuppet 05-05-2013 01:02 AM

An update for you all!

It comes in video form (2 videos)

Videos include an original modeled saber hilt, a new modding tool and a shameless plug for mine and 90SK's mod. There are still more secrets to come as well. Stay tuned and enjoy!

And as I always say: Suck it, Jaevyn!

One last thing I forgot to highlight in the video: DupliSaber can indeed be configured to export sabers in MANY DIFFERENT COLORS. For instance, when I was developing this mod with Crixler, we had brainstormed at least 30 different colors! To do that manually would have taken forever... but now it won't!

supreme kotor 05-05-2013 01:23 PM

^Just watched the videos! Man am I excited it looks really cool. Nice idea ;)

Canderis 05-05-2013 01:30 PM

Allo all! I have joined the project!

Fallen Guardian 05-05-2013 03:27 PM

Wow, duplisaber sounds pretty awesome. In theory, duplisaber should work with any model and item combinations right? So weapons and masks as well?

Currently, it only works for sabers because I hard-coded it to look for certain values in the hex code. Would not be hard to modify it for masks or items, but it doesn't seem as useful because generally speaking, most weapons or models don't end up needing several different color variations.

Marius Fett 05-05-2013 03:59 PM

That DupliSaber tool would have saved me a feckton of time back when I was an active modder. Nice job, VP! :)

I don't really see it for wepons but the mask models and clothing models would be cool.

Completly different system there. Clothes skins are done with 2da not model files

Zhaboka 05-05-2013 06:38 PM

Nice tool! I remember the screenies Crixler released way back when were mouth-watering. Best of luck to ya!

Mostly. :p

From what I recall there are a few exceptions to that rule. Can't think of what they are off the top of my head though. (Must be my memory failing with old age. :xp:)

Could I make a suggestion for a saber?
The BA-122 Prototype Lightsaber(s) from the USM mod.

Probably wont happen because. Some of the people that you would need permission from Aren't around anymore :(.

Reread the initial post carefully.

Christos K 05-22-2013 07:12 PM

I know that VP has permission from Chainz but does that include the rest of the USM team? Plus I wasn't sure if Chainz was behind the BA-122 or not.

Just now I looked at the credits for the USM mod and it looks like Chainz made the following,
Xia Terashai's Short Saber
Disciple's "Agenda" Lightsaber
Segan Wyndh Long Saber
Zez-Kai Ell's Double Saber
BA-122 Prototype Double Saber

So I guess all is good.

VarsityPuppet 05-23-2013 02:18 AM

We'll not go too much into USM permissions on this thread. I'm more concerned with releasing as many sabers as I can at the moment.

Speaking of which, it seems that HOTOR sabers are joining the ranks of sabers included in this here.

milestails 05-23-2013 11:17 AM

One saber that immediately comes to mind is Satele Shan's second double-bladed lightsaber from the Hope cinematic trailer.

bunjeeman 06-06-2013 07:54 AM

I was speaking with my brother recently (also a KotOR player), and he brought up the fact that Keen is not used very much in the saber modifications that do big damage; you have to sacrifice damage or stat boost to get better critical rating. Could you put Keen on a saber or two so tis isn't a issue?

greggomonkey 06-11-2013 10:14 PM

if you want some more vibrant stock saber colours I might be able to pull out one of my files from deep within my mess of computer.

VarsityPuppet 06-18-2013 04:06 PM

Another Update: Darth Traya's hilt. Of course it will be available for use as a saber hilt and for the final battle with Kreia herself.
I actually modeled the top and bottom parts after the Trayus core.

Show spoiler

Thoughts, suggestions? Should that red light change with the blade color? Do I need better symbols on the hilt?

Christos K 06-18-2013 05:50 PM

Perhaps its resemblance to the Trayus core should be a bit more/less subtle. I just can't decide which.

supreme kotor 06-18-2013 05:53 PM

Lets just say I'm not complaining ;). But seriously it looks great.

The resemblance I refer to being the 5 "claws". The symbols are gibberish, although I wonder if some Aurekbesh would be better suited there.

I'd recommend Sith Prophecy instead.

^ Yes. Gosh, that font is beautiful. Also looks disturbingly like Hebrew.

Amazing work! If the saber is named after Kreia/Traya, then no the red should be static. I think it would look better a bit darker red, unless that's just because of the rendering that it looks that light.

Phildevil 06-19-2013 07:15 AM

Looks good VP ;) Not sure about going trough the trouble of animating-it, unless you are positive that the player will get to see-it clearly in the game...
