Origins of Guybrush's Porcelain Phobia?
 

I was discussing Monkey Island with a friend of mine, and we both realized we had no clue where Guybrush's fear of Porcelain originated. Anyone care to enlighten me?

in CMI, when you first look at something porcelain, Guybrush will say, "It's made of p-p-porcelain... It's a long story."

also (spoilers) in SMI, when Guybrush is in the governer's mansion, he picks up a vase to smash on the officer. Perhaps the vase was porcelain?

well... his greatest fear is infact Vichyssoise a french potato and leek soup however once a while ago he got into a fight with a tureen and ladle filled with this soup (it was cursed) and of course you guessed it... made of porcelain. ever since Guybrush has been morbidly scared of Porcelain and Soup hence why he declines kind offers on blood island. (Y)

I don't know where Matty Mighty Pirate gets his sources from, but you have two options to accept, so pick one:

1) After a while, the LucasArts team has been known for creating inside jokes within their own creations, so this could more than likely be a joke that only those within LucasArts is belly-laughing to, while the rest of us just raise a brow and quickly but quickly mumble "huh?"

2) After Monkey Island 2, nothing is truly canon to Ron Gilber'ts creation, so this doesn't even really matter anyway, right?
