Hello there.

Hi, I'm a newbie here but I truly, truly adore Monkey Island. If Guybrush was really real ;) I'd marry him. I love Murry and LeChuck and I hate porceline.

Gabez 11-24-2002 09:27 AM

Welcome to the boards, Midnight Hawk.

Have fun!

Let me give you my super-duper extra special welcome-wave:

Aye up there Midnight Hawk

I could never work out why Guybrush hated porceline, the only thing I could possible link it to was when he hit Shinetop (or whatever his name is) with a porceline vase. But it doesn't explain the hatred.

What's you reason for hating porceline?

Just call me a nosiy git:D

Gabez 11-24-2002 10:45 AM

Well if you haven't already, then read this. (Look out for the easter egg on the page!)

Feral 11-24-2002 10:53 AM

I believe the origins of the porcelain fear stems from Monkey Island 2. WHen Guybrush is in ELaine's room, look at the vase. He says "Looks like it's made of porcelain. I hate that knick-knacky junk."

Yep that be a good reason to hate porcelain.

Oh and gabez, it still doesn't answer why Gurbrush is afriad of porcelain.

MrManager 11-24-2002 03:21 PM

Actually it does:

Bill Tiller told us you were responsible for the whole "porcelain joke", a gag that has plagued the Monkey Island community since 1997 - can you tell us why Guybrush is afraid of porcelain?
Really? I always thought it had something to do with the time in Monkey 1 where Fester Shinetop hit Guybrush on the head with a vase.

DrPhil2501 01-28-2007 07:46 AM

I'm not sure I fully understand. Why would Guybrush be suddenly be afraid of porceline after he used a porceline vase as a weapon against Shinetop (aka LeChuck)

Joshi 01-29-2007 05:04 AM

5 year old thread, that's got to be the longest resurrection in in the history of... well, these boards at least.

Bill is saying that Fester used the vase on Guybrush, not the other way round, but I haven't played the game in a while, so I wouldn't know which is true and which isn't.

Fealiks 01-30-2007 06:32 PM

Isn't it obvious? He hates porceline for the same reason everyone who hates porceline hates porceline. When he was young, about 5 perhaps, he could only just reach the toilet with his little monkey, so he layed it on the porceline when he needed to relieve himself. One day, the seat fell. You can work the rest out.

Ray Jones 01-31-2007 06:08 AM

Or it might have been during college time, when he gave Mr. Potty the liquid laugh. The seat came down and caused barf-in-the-nose(TM).

Mr Cheese 02-01-2007 05:46 AM

Guys, it's just a joke. This is like when everyone took the stump joke seriously.

Ray Jones 02-01-2007 06:18 AM

Never! You must be part of the conspiracy. Death, slime and then pain upon you!!
