My sister, who is a big Hayden Christensen fan has been plotting an assassination on George Lucas after seeing that haircut.
But on the other hand, it probably showcases his increasing defiance against the Jedi Order and code. Unless he's been promoted to Jedi Knight since AotC, but otherwise, he's being an unruly little apprentice.
