It wouldn't surprise me if there are increased rates of cancer--you stick something foreign into the body and it tends to react in some way or another. I suspect for most people a chip isn't going to cause any medical problems (privacy issues aside, I don't like the idea of carrying around a chip either). For a small percentage, it will cause problems, ranging from mild to something as severe as cancer. There are a lot of things that could be causing the cancer, though I suspect the most likely culprit is a reaction to the materials in the chip itself, not the radio signals.
