I don't care what anyone else says, game art and meshsmooth dont go together. The most important thing to focus on for a real time mesh is the silhouette. It means adding more definition to areas that need it, NOT everywhere.
That's my opinion, it doesnt mean i'm right, but if you end up using meshsmooth keep it to a reasonable polycount
P.S.:Id like to see those tutorials that use meshsmooth for game art...it's commonly used for normal maps but not for the actual game mesh.
