I don't recall ever loosing your stuff and not being able to get it back...

The game is worth finishing, the cinematics at the end are cool, though as PastramiX has stated the fighting does get a bit tedious! As a note of caution while looking though the boards of a 6 year old game to expect to encounter spoilers
