User Access Control, it's in vista as well. Basically, when it's enabled (like it is by default) if a program wants to interact with specific 'important' parts of the system, a box pops up and asks if you want to continue or not.
personally, i don't really mind uac. i just got used to it.
all my JA-vista woes were cured by a simple "run as admin".
