Sal saw Perdante crumple as the wave hit them, and as he grabbed onto a rail above their heads to keep himself steady, he wrapped his other arm around her shoulder and side, holding her tight to his chest.
"Perdante!" he said, over the sound of the wreckage, but he wasn't able to do anything until the shockwave had spent itself, and their pod had steadied again. Once the rocking had stopped, he released his grip on the metal rod and, releasing his hold on her, he got down on one knee in front of her. Grabbing both of her wrists, he gently tried to pry her hands open and away from her head and face.
"Perdante," he said, a little more gently this time. "Hey - Perdy, look at me."
