I woulda pre-ordered in a split second, but there is no PC version.

The only Amazon that has at least the XBox version seems to be .co.uk. Heh, .co.jp has a strategy guide...

Heh, they're using the dummied-up cover made by Mixnmojo for the Games Database.

Comment by: JBRAA | Posted 11:03, January 30, 2005
No I lifted the pre-cover from there.

There is a huge banner at the top of Mixnmojo now that includes a link to a PC version for preorder! (PS the huge link Met posted in the news update a couple days back also includes a PC pre order page).

Pre-ordered!

D'oh, I didn't click Metallus' big link. I would have preferred an Amazon over GameStop's 20 $ shipping price. But, hell, it's cheaper than PS2/XBox and I can still cancel it.

I ususally don't like huge useless banner ads, but this ones different for the sheer matter that it will get hits and mojo aren't getting paid for it (right?), which is just weird.

I won't order it yet because I don't like gamestop, so I'll wait until a shop ilike has it, like play.com

I'm still waiting for them to announce Psychonauts for the Mac. Yep. Just you wait. Any minute now. Yep. You betcha. *sits back and twiddles thumbs*

Actually, what I'm really waiting for is for the system requirements to be announced and for my clunky old PC to finally kick the bucket so I can buy a newer one that'll play the game. Because I'm too lazy to go get an XBox or a PS2.

PsychoMacs

For some reason I think this game would make a good port to GCN and Mac, speaking as someone who has never owned and rarely uses either of the previously mentioned platforms. Seems like GameCube and Apple tend to attract people who are into designey-innovatey things, plus Macs could always use more games. But again, I can't really back that up seeing as I don't own either. Also, Psychonauts on more platforms = more Psychonauts = Win. Thoughts?

I don't know about the Mac, but I think the game easily could find a market on the Cube. Funky, bizarre games seem to sell well there - most Beyond Good & Evil owners I know are Cube people.

I would say that buying a PC asks a lot more energy than buying any console... You don't have to wait for the system requierment to get a pc... Any Radeon 9800 (wich is kindda old ) and above will do the thing i guess... So go and buy.

In fact I wanted people to guess, YEAH !!!

With my p4 2.6 (wich i'm gonna change for a 3.06HT in upcoming weeks) and my 1Go ram I feel confident... The trouble is my Radeon 9500Pro 128... I'm not hoping to play the game at 60fps with a load of details... But i hope to play the game well... Actually i'm not having plenty of juice on POPWW (Prinse of persi... 2...)

You mean Prince Of Persia 5?!

The need for hardware is usually overrated. I fully expect to play any game that's released in the next months to be reasonably playable on my P4 2 GHz with 1 GB of RAM and ATI 9800 Pro. Bought the PC in a supermarket and just upgraded the RAM and graphics (+ HD). Far Cry, Doom 3, Half-Life 2 made no problems, why should Psychonauts? I think I played them in 1024x768.

Just checked: yes, true for Far Cry and H-L 2, Doom 3 wants the CD.

I'm not a cube owner (and how the hell do you complete that game?! The giant eye goes above you and then I get hit!)

I'm gonna be playing it on my computer and hopefully, it won't take up too many specs as my computer game out in november so it's getting on in... months. Bah, people still think it's a good idea to release games that don't work on computers that came out yesterday, but I've got a feeling the schafer will be different, I don't know why, i just have a feeling he'll want a lot of people to be able to play his game.

Oh, and I see no reason to buy an X-box to play it, a friend of mine bought an x-box for the soul reason of playing Halo-2 (seriously overrated) and he hasn't bought another game for it, there are simply no good games for the X-box (of course psychonauts will change that, but still).

I'm just gonna stick with the good ole PC and if i have to run it on limited graphics.

Until a Cube port ever comes out, it's PC for me. Just gotta buy a used Xbox controller and one of those USB adapters.

It would have to be a 2 disc game on the cube probably... or everything would have to be compressed a lot and bad looking.

If the game does well on the PC Aspyr will probably do a Mac port, but it would have to be a pretty big success first. Aspyr ports lots of stuff though (erm, and are publishing Stubbs the Zombie! in an unrelated tangent).

(and no, I made and put up that banner out of the goodness of my heart, no money is being earned on it... except by eb, gamestop, and majesco of course)

POP 3D was effectively the only Bad one, the two platform ones were brilliant for tyheir time, much like the old MI games.

Roll, man. You have to time it right, so keep trying. If you couldn't manage to roll out of the way the first time, you'll love the next stage! :>

Psychonauts truly does need to come out for the Cube. I've found that Gamecube owners are more than willing to look beneath the surface of Nintendo's generally cutesy offerings, rather than just going "Pffft! Cel shading! What a stupid game for little kids!". Well, they're either that, or actually are kids. Either way, they're a greatly appreciative audience and they need a game like Psychonauts!

spoiler:
Attack with the charged staff when it's above you!

Even with the hint it's gonna take several tries.

Okay, there is no roll feature in combat, all I have is dodge, and as muchy as I click that button, the things still hits me. tried to charge up my stick thing and launch up into it, but I never have enough time to charge up, when i click fire after hitting it on the right, she goes for another swing before she realises i'm holding the button down and by then it's too late.

And I know about the next part, apparently the controls are turned backwards, a "helpfull" friend told me to turn my keyboard upside down for that part. how does that work when I'm using a lapotop?!

The Psychonauts specs look pretty good, I knew Schafer would go in for gameplay as apose to big graphics and too much load time. The only big requirement is the 4-6g free, most games only ask for about 1 or 2 these days. But still, I'll buy it.

It's that Ati as been doing strange ingeneering in that bunch of card... The R9500 can be changed into a 9700 (with a little physic change(welding) and the 9500Pro was kind of suprinsigly performing for the price... But they needed tat model to be keeping the way againste nvidia... the R9600 is a less expensive to produce card, less performing, that came after the R9500 and R9500Pro, then it wasn't modifiable... and all...
Actually you're 256mo of ram should make something, of course, interesting .

You can't wait for the stick to be fully loaded. It will do its thing a lot earlier. Just start loading the special attack right after the last standard attack. Through trial and error you'll know when the absolute limit is reached before it attacks again. When you get that moment the stick will usually have charged enough.

That tip isn't relevant. You'll have to memorize the attack patterns anyways. In the end you don't react to what your opponent does, but to what you've learned in the previous fights.
That said, those last two moves where as much luck as experience for me.

Great game.

I expect Psychonauts to be similar, but more diverse. And crazy.

Probably more beards, too.

No way! I honestly never realised this. I just dodged out of the way each time. Again, I had to time it right - otherwise it would either get me immediately, or I'd end up dancing around perpetually dodging, after which it would get me. If I timed it right however, it would swoop ineffectually and I could get it.

I heard (yes, from a walkthrough, don't look at me like that) that you need to hit the thing consecutively wherever it moved, so I would need to get it when it's above me as apose to just dodging otherwise it wqopuld just enter it's pattern again and again and i wouyldn't go onto the next part.

It's decent that it buidls up to a really good ending, but I still have to work to find out what the hell it is. I may try the dodging thing though, it seems to be my only option (short of dancing around like a fool)

That said, I'll need to reinstall the damn thing after finding out that my pitiful 40gb HD was almost full.

This thread is hawt. I wonder how preorders are doing by now. I mean I hope that people outside the spheres of Mojo/TSB/LFN/Thumbs/AG will buy the game, and as part of that, I wonder how much more coverage on the "big" general video gaming ubernews sites Psychonauts will get before its release. A couple of real good previews have come out recently, but it seems like there's generally a feeling that it won't be a serious enough seller to compete with the likes of just about any of the other games you hear about for the Xbox. Others sites' content hasn't been updated since last October or thereabouts. Anyway, not really worth worrying or speculating about so much, I just really want it to do well.

I really want it to do well as well, but to be honest, i'll just be happy that it's coming out and that even if just a few people play it, we still be able to. Schafer and co probably know how many people are likely to buy this game and if it's a small amount, they haven't let it sway them towards to dumping option, but instead still want to release it (showing that Schafer doesn't care about money... well okay, not much anyway, he's not stupid).

But the previews have been comparing it to some of the big games anticipated for release this year, so it can't do too bad.

I think that the game will do well, at least enough for Majesco or someone else to publish a second game by Double Fine. Whether or not it will make a huge dent in the industry and become the unbelievable super-success we all secretly wish it to remains to be seen. I do know, though, that I am very happy to see it getting some semi-mainstream attention. I want to see obscene amounts of advertising for it as we get closer to April.
