New Ultimate Saber Mod

For those who don't know, I've been working on a saber mod that will be compatible with TSLRCM. It will bring USM, HOTOR and all the other hilts you can imagine together in one big mod.

Well instead of speculation and discussion, we are now entering Phase 2 of the mod making process.

Phase 2 is the part where the mod actually works and could be released as is (no TSLPatcher ATM)

However, since this is intending to expand beyond its current scope, I figure we can start a new thread not about which are your favorite sabers, but an official update thread. I'll still take input of course, but the focus of this is to provide updates and get feedback about the mod itself, not just the sabers.

Also, if you could, I'm trying to decide on an epic name to call this mod so people will be intrigued and download it. I don't want all this work to go to waste after all. Just vote above or if you have another idea, just post it below.

Here's where we're at.

USM - I have permission from Chainz.2da to use USM hilts. 20 of which are converted
HOTOR - I have permission from Qui-Don Jorn to use HOTOR hilts, just waiting for the textures
Quanon - Permission Pending
Evasto - Evast's Lightsaber, Inrita's, Ametha's and Kilana's Lightsabers
oldflash - Any and all of his hilts.
DeadMan - Lightsaber Pikes (credit will be given)

And a few others (some Kotorfiles ones that slip my mind)

Problem being that there are way too many sabers from different mods to give them all a reference.

Masters of KOTOR or Masters of TSL was the one I was going with the most, because the name refers more to the authors of the mods and sounds fairly imposing.

Oh, also, I have permission from oldflash to use some of his saber mods.

Pure awesome, VP. I'll definitely be playing TSL again, once this is released. Also, the "Community Project" name fits better, because it's made be multiple people. Again, can't wait to play with this!

As far as a name is concerned, how about something like a mashup music title to spice up the community lightsaber project angle:

I think because you are adding a new system that should be reflected in the name, just XXX Lightsaber Mod doesn't do it justice.

The problem is that if I use a name like "LightSaber Console", it's pretty vague as to what the mod actually does. To the average user, it could be just a computer that gives you infinite lightsabers.

That's really the problem - coming up with a name that does it justice.

EDIT AND UPDATE:

I forgot to add: oldflash has given permssion to use his lightsaber hilts

Oldflash mainly had replacement hilts for the default sabers if I recall.

Also, I was curious about compatibility with any of the flickering saber color mods such as http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filef...ures_v9;121445

I'm using the animated textures in the video. Completely compatible.

But for the hell of it, I'm including and making a new version. Pretty much the same, just gets rid of the weird ghost image of the blade meshes. Also, the textures fps is waay higher so you get a sort of vibrating quality to the blade.

I had in mind to maybe remap the saber blades so they're a bit more consistent in a 360 degree angle around the hilt.

Very true about oldflash and his hilts, but as long as I can find a suitable name for them (backstory isn't always necessary, for instance), I think we'll be alright.

Lastly, on the issue of expanded colors (It came up on DeadlyStream), originally the plan was just to nix the expanded colors. But, if you guys want em all, let me know. It's certainly easy to add more colors, but I need to come to a conclusion or I'll have to redo a lot of the work.

I vote yes on the colors. They were definitely a good addition to USM.

Didn't Crixler just add colors to KotOR and create a difference between Orange and Guardian (Bronze in TSL), Silver and White, Cyan and Mantle. I wasn't aware of Crixler having a TSL mod though.

More colors is always a good thing. I read somewhere that people become happier when getting to choose their own color palette.

Also, I don't like the Song Name mash up title, it's too... Rap for my tastes. I'd go with either the Community one, or what the poster was actually leaning toward and calling it Masters of TSL. That name would hook me in a heartbeat.

"Masters of TSL" doesn't mention lightsabers at all; it sounds like you've bent the entire game to your will (probably with Force Lightning ).

Now, if you called it "Saber Masters" or "Hilt Masters" then you're getting somewhere. Add in "of Holowan Labs" and you've got your community angle. On second though, that starts sounding more like a team name than a mod name.

Something I forgot to mention though that I also mentioned to Trig.

Try to keep the poly counts on the low side. 1000 - 1500 polys for a more artistic saber is just fine, but I've been keeping normalish sabers in the 300 - 700 range.

That said, hilts are amazing. Any name ideas for the hilts?

Speaking of colors, I have 16 total colors that covers (generally) the colors of the rainbow and then a few 'silvery' colors.

Magenta
Red
Orange
Yellow
YellowishGreen (LightGreen)
Green
Turquoise
Cyan
Blue
Indigo
Violet
White (just a white blade)

Bronze is silvery orange/yellow
Viridian is silvery green.
Silver is silvery blue
Crimson is silvery red
Amethyst is silvery violet/purple/whatever
The reason I arrived at these colors is generally because Crixler wanted to make a total of 30 color variations originally. That would have been alright, except for a lot of the colors in between were hard to tell apart.

For instance, Crixler would have Orange, Amber, Yellow and greenish Yellow. Orange and Amber were kinda hard to tell apart imo...

I'd just like to make a small request (In fact I could probably just do this on my own once the mod is released since it's just a matter of renaming the files last time I checked) but could these colors also be released for KotOR 1?

I'm dead jealous on your very clean wireframes. All those nice Quads. I never practiced enough to get a good grasp on that stuff in 3D. So I sort of go with the flow. Getting messy meshes

Thx! I consider these to be LS hilts. Third will be named Lilly. I have another older hilt model named Rosey. I got flora motif

The others are far more conservative. Along the lines of Virtious Justice. Or Righteschness Cleaver Beast

Max has some very easy to use modifiers; one of them is named Twist. So it just twists a mesh. You have few options to play around with to get a nice effect.

Steam Sale has really taken a hit on my productivity as of late, but I've finally finished(?) Consular.

Upper range, with a 1100 polycount.

I'm not particularly happy with how the leather "grip" worked out, but it's suitable for now. I suppose this will be a viable final; any changes will be made before I ship it off with the rest of the hilts to VP

As for classes, here is the lowdown: the 3 main class lightsaber have been crafted, along with the Watchman lightsaber; The Marauder and Master hilts were picked out by Candy; I've picked out the Weaponmaster lightsaber (lightened-up version of this), the Assassin hilt (Daemon, from the defunct randomsabers), and the Lord hilt (this).

I'm keeping the Sith Marauder Lightsaber as the Descent hilt Candy posted earlier. However, something that could be interesting would be if there was a way to give an extra bonus for having two of that lightsaber equipped. When I played Marauder, I would exclusively use 2 lightsabers; I even think there was a feat or somesuch that encouraged that, but my memory is quite shoddy on the matter.

I think the reason most are designed symmetrically that way is because of Darth Maul's lightsaber: yea, it is literally just two of the same lightsaber glued together. I realize it is different from that, but the point is extra power in exchange for extra slowness, and that if it were to be bisected, one or both halves would remain operational.

Even some of the symmetric hilts, if they are "active" enough, could be exciting and interesting. My Sentinel hilt VP posted earlier is easily my favorite lightsaber I've ever made, and that's fairly symmetric.

My excuse is I've found next to no asymmetric designs :P

My progress is that I've burnt out on my steam funds and I've almost finished my games, in addition to procuring a new copy of TSL that, once I patch for widescreen, I should be able to return to modding, true to form. No promises.

I've also started work on the rest of the lightsabers, but my time is divided amongst them all, so it will take longer for a true progress update, but the update will definitely have more sustenance to it.

Hey VP & TG, just for compatibility sake, before I release the Juhani mod (which has these sabers in it), are you going to re-number them when Quanon submits them for this mod? Right now they are g_w_dblsbr063.uti & g_w_dblsbr064.uti. If they are going to need to be re-numbered, I'd like to change them in the Juhani mod, so that they won't conflict later on. Thx

So, my progress on hilts continues, I've finished and shipped over two hilts over to VP for rigging:

So, as I go through my library of stuff, I've found a small collection of ~quality~ lightsabers, that I simply have to optimize, map, texture, and ship over to VP. The only one that will be freshly modeled will be Consular (which will probably take the longest to finish, as well). By my projections, you've seen about half of my contribution to the mod, give or take. I'll keep you good people updated on when I finish what. I hope to have this all finished sometime in the middle of next week, though a more realistic expectation would probably be before next weekend. If I can finish sooner, great, as that would likely mean a faster release.

Sounds good to me. It is a small thing, however, I would like to see darker versions of the three original colors, Blue, Yellow and Green, for use as a Darkside player without having to default to Red all the time. I know I can choose whatever I want any time I play the game, but a Darker Forest Green would look BA on my Sith Lord, imo. Not that I'm requesting it, mind you, just commenting. I can be completely happy with those colors.

You rock for including Indigo, das my favoriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite. Well, you rock for a lot of other reasons, as well, but... especially this one. Haha.

I like Holowan Hilt Masters better than Holowan Saber Masters, but in acronym form HSM looks better than HHM - plus it's a complete saber mod, not just a hilt mod.

TriggerGod, your hilt recreations are sex.
