Lightbulb Land on the moon going fast!

Here it is for you guys, you budding entrepreneurs. Your chance to finally purchase land on the moon with full purchase deed and mineral rights.

You heard right. The moon is now onsale.

I think its rediculous but what do you guys think. Is it legit? Is it moral and ethical? Is it right that people should be able to buy the moon?

Look at the bright side. At least if I purchase some land, when I go to inspect it at least I can charge it as a business expense.

No, I am no relation to Krusty.

The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 explicitly forbids any government from claiming a celestial resource such as the Moon or a planet.

This treaty, while recognized and ratified by the UN, didn't include private corporations and individuals from laying claim to land.

Unfortunately for those that have purchased land .... if I were to suddenly obtain the technology to get there and stay there, I could still stake my claim.

In most countries, possession is 9/10 of the law. I would have priority over anyone who had not and could not get there in the eyes of most courts that would be willing to hear the case.

I doubt that the issue will be problematic for many decades.

Still... it is an interesting birthday gift to get a deed to a crater on the Moon or a valley on Mars.

That'd be like getting a picture book from your parents about your life on your 17th birthday instead of money or a new computer. Oh, wait.

I saw an interview on tv the other day with the guy who owns that company and his australian "real estate agent". I'll tell you what it is, - it's a SCAM!

Whenever it does become feasible for ordinary people to go to the moon - which won't be for many decades to come, then it really will be first-come first served.

What's most likely to happen IMO is that corporations (MS, GE, AOLTW etc) will be among the first to colonise the moon and Joe Bloggs with his laser-printed certificate will be laughed at.

The guy in charge must be laughing all the way to the bank, with all the morons willing to pay totally over the odds for a bit of paper.

There is also companies that sell you the rights to name a star. To bad that most of the stars visible are already named.

Even if they weren't already named by the "International Astronomical Union." and you named it. It wouldn't matter, because the "IAU" didn't approve it. So you just get ripped of and if you believed the crap you most likely deserved it.

Why would I want to buy land on the moon or a planet? Especially if the deed doesn't mean anything. I can't pass it down through my family for a few decades, because I will never get there.

I can pretty much guarantee that there will be lots of organizations battling over territorial rights in the solar system some day; as well, as some pretty nasty wars. I don't think my future family wants to be involved in trying to get their 10 acres of the Moon that their idiot grandfather bought.

Considering the high cost and difficulty of getting there, I'd be EXTREMELY SUSPICIOUS of any company claiming to sell plots of land on the moon or any other extra-terrestrial body.

This smacks of the (totally illegitimate) scheme to sell "stars with your name on them" and that sort of thing (btw, anybody can sell you a certifcate that says a star is named for you, but that doesn't mean its recognized by anybody other than yourself).
