*** NEW *** Monthly Challenge

Every month, for those of you who play the game still, it would be great to have a challenge set to see who can achieve it.

You can attach screens to prove you met the target.

The Challenge:

Nice and easy to start with. The quickest time you hit Tech 3

Can you refresh my memory on how to take screenies?

Also, it's just on to getting tech 3 right? No worry about military, ect?

Do we get to choose the map? As Frozted said, a fast T3 depends quite heavily on having more than one full nursery.

And how will you know we're not cheating?

Well here's my attempt: 14:02. It's no doubt quite beatable, but someone has to start off. If anyone beats it (which someone probably will) I'll give it another go.

I had most things to my advantage: I did it on Reytha, which has heaps of resources, and had it on easy, and used the Rebels. However I set resources to "Standard" because putting it on "Highest" would be a bit too much

I say you should have to record the games. Even if you quit after getting T3, it is still recorded right?

I think it would be obvious with a recorded game. If the player suddenly gets 1000 food out of nowhere...well you get the idea...

I've been practising on standard 1v1 RM sets, but choosing ice lake or motherlode instead of RLM.

Obviously if you're allowed all visible it gets much easier as you can see where the animals are, and if you choose a bigger map there will be more of them.

And what's the closing date?

Well this is what I did:

Normal Random Map (not ice lake or whatever)
Normal Line of Sight (not all revealed)
Easy vs 1 Computer
Standard Resource amount

Can anyone recommend a free screen capture utility that actually works with games? The Windows print screen turns most of the pixels black. I've tried Screen Hunter but this doesn't seem to work at all with games.

Thats a good challenge but we need something that takes a bit more strategy.

??? I never had that kind of problem with my screenies. Must be a problem of compatibility with your version of windows.

mastern-we'll see for next month

Saberhagen - if you do a normal Windows screen capture, it doesn't work, but if you just press PrntScrn whilst in SWGB it saves a screenshot to your Galactic Battlegrounds directory. You'll know if it works because a message comes up in game saing that a screenshot was taken.

Everyone else - looks like I win this month's challenge, eh? What with no competitors and all...

There's still two weeks and a half left. The competition should normally end November 17.

And why do you think I was asking how to take a screen shot? I might well have something that I need to prove...

Sorry, I've been playing HW2 alot, and wishing LA made a Star Wars game like it. Does it matter which GB we play? I prefer the old one...

You can't possibly win this challenge with the old one because animal nurseries have to be powered.

Edit: BTW, here's my attempt:

Damn, saberhagen beat me. Curse his being excellent at the game!

Anyhow I'd like to see this monthly challenge thing ressurrected. Can anyone suggest a new challenge?

I wouldn't say I was excellent. This challenge just means I have too much time on my hands so I could keep trying until I got the right map with enough banthas on it. If you watch the rec without fog of war you'll see that I actually missed some at the far end of the map, so it could have been even quicker if my scouting was better.
