Flamberge = 100% real weapon, just not as popular in the dark to middle ages 'cus they were believed to be evil swords.

Then yet again you'd think the same way for a Kris for its simular shape

As for a Flamberge rapier, I guess someone wanted to be a little fancy.

Sexwing: Aaahh...a scimitar! Nice swords, indeed. I failed to include them in the poll because they aren't widely popular (and there are so many bladeforms used in the world today that no poll could include all of them.) I'd say you have unique but perfectly valid tastes when it come to weaponry...

just give me a mace. bottled or clubbed, they will both do fine.

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

The one in Robin hood is exactly the type I want. I like a certain uniqueness to my weapon, but also one that drives fear into the hearts of men, and one that is pleasing to my eye.

err.. not that you are not a sexy guy sxw.. but still a guy.. y'know.. redwing leaves at least the chance open that he's a girl. that seems to be enough information for lynk to decide that redwing will be the victim of his dirty minded sex thoughts concerning such names.
looks like you're not the only one who sees redwing that way so we're not that different, lynk.
except for the fact that you are the one who is called car horn and i am the one who doesnt get it.

Cool Guy HONK! HONK!

Lynk's old username: Corran Horn. *Honk!*

Rogue15: First an axe, now a mace?!? I'm beginning to think you don't have the skill required to use a sword proper...

Jango: I can tell you haven't seen the Tolkien movies yet. Narsil is seen both before and after breaking. BTW, Narsil is a good example os what my European ancestors would have called a 'bastard sword.'

Scared Cookee: Flamberges look wicked, yes...but their performance in combat is notoriously unpredictable. When you hit with a straight or curved sword, it says *WHANG!* However, when you hit with a sword that is more than only a little wavey...it says *WHA-AAA-AAA-ANN-NNG-GGG* because the addition of so many curves in the steel tends to break up the vibration and split it into an oscillating wave which does not fade uniformly. This can make a difference if you're doing some tricky D'Artagnan-type stuff.

Redwing: This quickness of name association on Lynk's part is a subconscious clue that he actually wants you. You sexy beast.

Zoomie:

I'm surprised you haven't resorted to 'Sacred Cookie' yet

but in anycase, it's still a valid weapon. Also in speaking of which that any blade does have its advantages and disadvantages

for instance:

The scimtar as the curved blade most likey helping to swing the blade faster, while at the same time you cant really stab with that weapon like europian sword

A claymore is mush longer, slower to swing, and heavier to boot.

Katana long extremely sharp, and can be swung quite fast as well. But as once explained to me in nice detail (winks at cracken during a car trip ) that during a fight katana's are purely used for one hit kills, and more purely on luck then anything. Sure oyu can wound te heck out of someone, but the mere kill has to be made or else you're the one going down

Kris, nice dagger, with good shaped blade on it, perfect for wounding indefinately. plus the length is seasonably good for its class. I likes

Rapier, different types have different thinknesses in the blade, while very sharp, and the thinness of the balde also helps the speed of the blade as well. But if I'm not mistaken that rapier blades can break a little more easily due to that thinness.
And the hand gaurd helps too.

Oh, boy. Time for me to jump in.

I chose a Rapier. Why? Well besides owning two of them (one being a Flamberg). They are light, deadly and beautiful. Far more beautiful then the crappy Katana. (Yes you heard right. I dislike, the Katana. Although I also own two of those).

Anyways. The Rapier takes a good about of tip skill. They are not good cutting swords. In fact the palm can be used to parry with, this has lead to some swordsman sharpening the blade to cut the palm.

Anyways the Rapier is very deadly, and graceful. One of the ones that I own has a camel bone handle. Very beautiful to behold. The key to wining with the Rapier is speed and control. If you want you can also use two.

Second choice. A viking/norman sword. Nice brutal weapon perfect for cleaving the head off of a man.

Third the Claymore. A light sword for it's size. That can easily cleave a couple of men in two in a stroke.

Fourth: Stilleto. When stealth is required. You can hide this deadly dagger in your arm and stab your victim with little effort. It easly pierces through the rib cage to the heart. Good weapon for Assassins. Plan on buying one soon.

Fifth: War Axe, Hammer, Club, or Flail. All simple and deadly. I also own all of them making it convinent.

Sixth: A spear or polearm. Swords are great but you need to get in close. These let you keep your distance.

Seventh: Any European sword. Medieval, Great ect. They are all good and deadly.

Last: The katana. Sure it is a good sword, but most on the market are poor copies. Then of course if you miss with your initial strike and you parry with the flat side of the blade you can easily break it.

Rapier wins for beauty, skill, and it inherint deadlyness that is hidden.

Sarca Dookie: () You winked at Cracken during a car trip? My.

'Tis true that the samurai sword is one that is fatal when used properly, and most duels with them lasted no more than an instant or so--the study of iaijutsu in Japan can be blamed for this, as well as the samurai's basic worldview which embraced a willingness to die oneself as the surest path to victory. Myself, it's more like if you make me mad enough to draw the sword in the first place...you aren't going to survive the experience, anyway. *Chop!*

Admiral: Then don't parry with the flat of the blade, silly. The back of most authentic samurai swords have a ridge and are especially hardened during smithing specifically to produce an ideal parrying edge. On antique samurai swords, one can tell if it had seen combat in the old days by checking the back for parry marks.

Rapiers are wonderful swords, swift and deadly. Katana vs. rapier is such an overdone argument, though, that I tend to think it's more about personal preference than the actual fighting merits of the two bladeforms...

Captain Wilson: Okay, but bear in mind that the claymore was originally invented for dealing with a horse and rider--it's basically meant to be fatal on a large animal. You must be what, 7'6", 8'...?

When I get home people'll ask me, "Hey Hoot, why do ya do it man? Why? Just some war junkie?" Ya know what I'll say? I won't say a goddamn word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand why we do it. They won't understand that it's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is.

Zoom: I know that about Katana's, but most do not. As such they would parry with the side, and I know some with the blade itself.

Ever seen Highlander. Many people think that is the proper way to parry with a sword regardless of the type.
