Question on the pc version...
Hi guys!
I was going to buy this game for my pc, but, not trusting the Min specificatin posted on the official FAQ I want your opinion...
I have a:
P4 1800 Mhz
512 Mb RAM
Geforce4 5200 fx 256 mb ddr
Win Xp
How are my performances going? As far as the official specs I should be able to play it without too much troubles...
Im stockpiling games, Doom3 and Thief3 runs both like crap (Doom3 in particular is unplayable)....
I dont want SW:BF to take dust on my library like them... should I buy it?
II dont mind about low detail, I just want a smooth playing experience .

DirectX
Microsoft DirectX 9.0c is included on this CD. You will be prompted to install DirectX during the installation of this game if this or a more recent version isn?t already properly installed on your system. NOTE: DirectX may require the "latest" updates for your operating system. This may also include the latest drivers for your motherboard, sound, and video hardware.
Installation
Installation requires 2.7 GB of free hard drive space. We recommend that you have an additional 200 MB of free space available after installing the game for the Windows swap/page file.
Internet Connectivity for Multiplayer
Required: DSL, Cable, or faster connection

Those are the official specs. So of course, the game should run fine, just make sure you have the latest stable drivers for your video and sound cards and the latest stable directX.
The thing is however, your MP experience probably won't be smooth, because everyone is complaining about the 20/30 fps cap that the majority of servers have. Hopefully a few patches from now this will be fixed.

You should buy more RAM (so that u've got 700+RAM) and a Radeon 9600 XT or 9800 XT graphics card.

He could, but it won't make much difference in the game. I have less than he has and I can run at full detail with smooth framerate (offline, heh).
His specs meet or exceed the recommended requirements, so he's fine if he doesn't want to spend a bunch more cash. ; )

Wow! Unexpected good news!!!
I will buy it mainly for Single player, due to my crappy conection...
However...
This game is new...Thief3 is 4-5 months older and it runs horribly on my machine... are you sure that it will run fine in single player?

I don't see any reason why not. Here are my specs and the game runs fine in SP on full detail, 1024x768 res:
AMD Athlon 2400XP+ (2 Ghz, I've also tried with an 1800XP+ at 1.6? Ghz)
Windows 2000 Professional
256 mb pc133 sdram
ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 (not Pro, not XT, just regular, and 128 mb ddr vram)
DirectX 9.0c
Soundblaster Live! (regular version)
The age of the game doesn't matter so much as the engine used, how well they did their compatability testing and how good the current drivers are for the stuff you're using. The sys specs are what they are.

I'd say it'll work perfectly. Perhaps not all on max settings, but SW:BF doesn't require as much you'd expect. You will do fine unless unexpected issues crop up (hardware conflicts and the like)
Belly-button lasers! I've seen them!

I thought having more than 512 RAM would overload your motherboard.

Not necessarily. It depends on the hardware you have. I've heard of people with over a gig of ram, so it must not be impossible.

Okay I have have a laptop with similiar specs to Triforcer's except i on ly have 512 Ram. The game will play though the sky is black because I don't have T&L (Ati Radeon 7500 Mobile). However, the gameplay is still pretty cool and runs good for me to be competitive against others online who are running higher system specs. Though at times there are surface plane clipping like on Hoth when you are in third person being the tower, being in the pilot (third person view ) runs fine. But I notice that my view distance is not that far compared to others who have the high end cards. So i just compensate using zoom on my gun to scope down the field. I usually dont have lag online and I know that is the server's part because I can run freely in other servers. It also helps to update all the vid drivers including directx if needed as posted before. Don't forget to set the color bit to 32-bit in the display settings or u may not be able to play.

I just am a little amused when I hear people quoting double the min. specs of the game and asking "will it run on okay on this?"
Granted, some games are so hugely buggy that the specs are completely fanciful, but thankfully this is rare.
The main thing with PC games is that no matter how much testing is done, there are always quirks with each person's individual system. So the key to getting great performance vs. getting okay performance or good performance is tweaking, settings, drivers, etc.
