Dude, you're like so ignorant. It was a comic first (and a nice one at that), then a comic-to-game adaption, then a comic-to-game-to-movie adaption.
The two franchises started as movies, too. So it gets a little more complicated if you watch them separately: Two movie series joined in a comic, made into a game series and then into a movie...

If you think THAT is mind boggling, think about Resident Evil?!
Resident Evil is a game spin off of movie, Night of the Living Dead, THEN the spin off gets made to a movie. How ironic?
And don't get me started on Tomb Raider, i'm too tired, and I may never finish.....

Add Silent Hill to that list.
It might not suck seeing that it's being written by Roger Avary, who co-wrote Pulp Fiction among other things.

Yes, might not be bad. Christophe Gans also directed Crying Freeman and did a decent job (though I can't tell how it compares to its comic origin). At least Uwe Boll doesn't seem to be involved in this one...

Now now, don't assume they'll all suck until you see them. LOTR was adapted from the books and the ROCKED. Harry Potter movies were... ok.
I've just waiting for a Monkey Island movie.

cast would be:
Malcom - Vin Diesel
Brock - Ben afflek :/
Lauren - Michelle Rodriguez
Crow - Jack Nickleson
and some other dudes....

Unreal Tournament doesn't have a storyline. It would be a bunch of people destroying eachother and respawning as a game.

Hee, what, Unreal Tournament has characters? You know their names? :~
I don't think it's possible to beat the pinnacle of perfection that is the Wing Commander movie, anyway. Freddie Prinze Jr can do no wrong!

It's hilarious, the director of flick said in an interview that it started with the game. Hollywood's kind of going into the pits. (what..."kind of"?)
My bro's got some of the original Alien vs. Predator comics. It's pretty sweet. The flick might have been somewhat decent had it followed the book's guidelines.
There's no earthly way of knowing which direction we are going. There's no knowing where we're rowing or which way the river's flowing. Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Not a speck of light is showing, so the danger must be growing. Are the fires of hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing? Yes, the danger must be growing 'cause the rowers keep on rowing, and they're certainly not showing any signs that they are slowing. AAAGGHHH!!!

I COULD see Max Payne as a decent movie ONLY if Ed Norton plays the part, and it is directed by either Quention Terentino, Richard Donner, or Brian Singer.

Grim Fandango should be a movie... but only if they could get all the original voice cast together for it. Give it to Pixar or the Shrek animators...
On second thought, maybe that's not such a good idea... That game was too good to be allowed to be "Hollywood-ized"

Shall we all start pointing out the difference between decent games and decent books? One is meant to have a better storyline.
And the only reason the Harry Potters were crap was because the key actors couldn't act in the first 2 films and too much was left out of the third film.
There are very few games out there that could, under decent circumstances, be made into a half decent film. I can't think of many, beyond Good and Evil has a nice storyline, but it would need to be fleshed out slightly for a movie. The Longest Journey may be to complicated for the average movie goer, but shortening it would be sacriledge, so I say leave it as it is.

True, I had a feeling someone would point out the difference in books and games, but I just couldn't think of any movies that originated in games, AT ALL. Maybe there is a reason people don't make movies out of games.
However, Halo's storyline is a great deal more intense than your average first person shooter, and if they base the movie off of the books, it might not be half bad.

It does have a GREAT story line, but I could see it getting ruined by Hollywood. I mean they should REALLY leave the video game franchise alone, but as long as these 12 year olds keep showing up and buying tickets, there is just no stopping it...

Thus proved by Resident Evil and Tomb Raider, considering they both spawned sequels.

You know, I laughed through the first Resident Evil, I THOUGHT Tomb Raider would have been decent, but I was totally dissapointed. I heard from others that the sequal was better, but I didn't want to put myself through it again. Is it worth it?

The entertainment value of Tomb Raider 2 is ten times the entertainment value of the first one.
Now multiply 10 by nothing.
I couldn't laugh through the first resident evil, I slept through most of it and just didn't bother with the second.

First of all, the half life movie IS NOT BASED ON THE GAME (hell, there was already a movie made named half-life, it was made in the 70's or something). That should be taken off the list. But I am still expecting a real one, after valve asked their fans some questions pertaining to who they wanted to act out the characters.
Second, there are rumors that Deus Ex (which was cancelled last spring) might come back, but dont hold your breath.
Thridly, the Far Cry movie is supposedly going to be more of a horror movie (its being directed by some german horror director) .

You're right where you're right, Uwe Boll is pure horror.
A little unrelated, but having played a little bit of Half-Life 2, I think Far Cry is the better game. Less linear.

It's kinda like Half-Life was better than Unreal or Quake 2 but not as good as Deus Ex. They were all great, though.
I like Half-Life 2 better than Doom³ although that's a superb game. But I just dig the non-linearity of Far Cry. You don't have the feeling of being pushed through a tunnel of horror, but have instead the option to decide how you want to play (sneaky with a silenced SMG, long-range with a scoped weapon; close quarters with a shotgun...) and where to approach.
That said, I think I will enjoy playing Half-Life 2. I love it.
Steam is an impudence!
