MSN Messenger problem, please help!!!

Hi i know this has nothing to do with lucasforums. However i have a problem on my laptop when trying to download and install MSN messenger (versions 6.2 and 7). and i hope somone who reads this may know a solution.

I get this towards the end of the install:
"an error occured during the installation of
assembly 'microsoft.windows.networking.RtcRes,type="win32"
,version="5.2.3.3",publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1d f",proce
ssorArchtecture="x86"'.Please refer to Help and Support
for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070002

This is followed by a windows popup with Error 1603.

Can someone please help me out.

Thanks for reading.

firstly, are you trying to install it on an operating system other than XP or 2000??? it should work with win98/ME (considering it IS a micro$oft product), but you cold have problems otherwise.

the other thing you could do is to try re-downloading, just in case you have a corrupted *.exe file.

you could also try to diagnose the problem yourself by entering "MSN Messenger", "install", and "error 1603" into google. believe it or not, you can usually find out if thats happened to other people and find out what to do to fix the problem.

hope that helps.

Another thing that has nothing to do with your problem, but just a tip if you get it installed, check for spyware after you installed it (especially lop.com) I believe I've read something about lop.com and micro$oft, but I'm not sure what it was.

if you really want media player, just try downloading from micro$oft again to both get the latest version and to make sure its installed properly.

of course, i highly recommend that you don't use windows media player. it pales in comparision to Winamp as far as overall functionality. and it recognizes a lot more media types than media player does. trust me: its the way to go.
