well, "cybersquatting" isn't as lucrative as it used to be.
If LA bothered to pursue the domain in the courts, whoever owns the domain would probably be ordered to hand it over, plus pay court costs
Especially if LA has copyrighted/trademarked the acronym "kotor"...
Otherwise, they'll let it alone and let it become a fansite such as 'kotor1.com' is now...
The owner of the domain will either be obligated to make a fan site, or hand it over... but they'll not get rich over it

Exactly.
A few years back, someone tried to get a bunch of money from selling Justintimberlake.com. Basically, the court ruled that since the only reason they bought it was to sell it, it wasn't in line with good bussines practices. I'm paraphrasing here because I can't remember the exact statement, but thats pretty much what it meant.
Another example is madonna.com. Some people bought it and made a porn site. The court ordered it handed over to Madonna because they ruled that most people would expect it to be for the singer, and not expect to find porn. If I recall, they also were afraid kids might go to the site. Ofcourse, people could ask if kids should be listening to Madonna's music, but thats not really relevent here.
Unless you can show you have a legitimate reason for buying a domain name, the court can order it turned over. Sometimes, the court might take money into consideration. I seem to recall a case where a guy shared his name with an big named actor. I can't remember the actor involved, though. The man had a little site where he put up pictures and whatever for his friends and family. The actor sued and won. Here the court said the actor should have the site because he would be using it to make money and advertise himself and his movies. The guy who happed to have the same name wasn't making money from it, so it was more important for the actor to have it.(court's perspective, not mine)
Call it BS. Call it stupid. Call your congressman/congresswoman. But thats just the way it is.
Whomever bought kotor3.com might have just thrown their money away. That doesn't mean they did, though. Going to court takes time and money, so some companys will just pay for the name. Thats if the seller isn't asking some outragous price. If the company thinks that its more cost effective to simply buy it, they will.

What about the white house deal(I'll put that instead of the site) did they ever fix that? It was porn also. Seemed ridiculous.

While I was pursuing my CIS degree, there was an instructor that used that site to "send home" the importance of using the correct domain extensions when entering URLs.

Honestly i wouldn't be surprised if lucasarts actually bought the domain name, as a precaution to stop these things from happening.

yeah, they finally got busted and is now a good example of what happens to cybersquatting
Uncle Sam sued them, and though they didn't take the site, the owner was "obligated" to take down the porn or it would no longer be his/her domain
It's a safe link now consisting of government searches and such. Though it still should be noted that if you want a government related site... use .gov rather than .com... younger eyes might be safer that way ... hehehe..
