My Kotor story

Corsen Varr’s eyes snapped open. He felt the floor rumble again, this time making the bookshelf on the wall collapse. The door to his bunk opened, and a man wearing a red uniform walked in.

“ Trask, what’s happening?” Corsen asked.

“ It took you that long to figure just that out?” Trask Ulgo retorted. “ We’re being attacked, and we need to get to the bridge and find Bastila.”

Trask tossed Corsen a blaster, and he pulled on his tunic. Well, this is just great, he thought. We’re in the middle of nowhere and the Sith can still find us. As the door opened again, a Republic trooper could be seen firing at a sivler armored figure at the end of the hall. A blaster bolt slammed into his chest and he fell to the floor. Suddenly angry, Corsen rolled into the hallway, pulling the trigger. As the Sith saw him and raised its defences appropriately, a smoking hole in his chest appeared. Trask came from behind Corsen.

“ Nice shooting”, he said.

Corsen nodded in response, as his wrist communicator beeped with a message.

“ This is Carth Onasi. Bastila is currently on the bridge. We need more personel to make our way to the escape pods. All hands to the bridge.”

Corsen had heard enough. He began to run.

Carth Onasi, Republic pilot, looked at the screen in front of him. It was bad. Really bad. The readings showed that the Endar Spire would break in half in a matter of minutes. He turned to Captain Shlo.

“ Captain, we have to get Bastila to the escape pods and onto the planet”, Carth said.

“ I’m afraid I cannot do that Ensign,” Shlo responded sadly. “ Another ship is approaching to block our route to the planet.” Carth looked out the observation window. Seconds later, a huge, grey and red hulk was direcly in front of them.

“ That’s no Sith ship.”

“ It’s the Sojourn.”

Corsen felt the ship rumble yet again, and found himself constantly looking back to see if Trask was alright. As they approached another door, they found it unlocked. Surprised, Trask walked forward while Corsen readied his blaster. Behind the door was chaos. The corridors were filled with the sound of vibroblades clashing, balsters firing, and the screams of dieing men. A Sith soldier was standing above another man, trembling with fear. Corsen came forward and simply shoved a vibroblade into the Sith’s spine. The Republic trooper got up and looked ready to hug Corsen if he got the chance.

“ Thank you sir”, he said. “ If there’s anything I can do for you-”

“ It’s alright soldier. Continue on,” Trask said. He handed the man his blaster.

As he ran into the fray again, Corsen said, “ Thanks.”

“No problem.”

As they walked forward, a red blade could be seen gleaming on the other side of the corridor. More screams came from that direction, and all Sith stopped attacking but instead ran toward the Sith knight. When all were behind him, he raised his hand and all the Republic soldiers went flying. They got up, and charged, hoping that sheer numbers would be able to defeat the Sith. They were wrong. Anyone who attacked him was swiftly cut down. Trask and Corsen had not moved. The Sith smiled evilly.

“ And now there are two”, he said.

Trask and Corsen formed a rotating circle around the Sith, and attacked from two sides at once. The Dark Jedi leapt up, at the same time another red blade springing forth from the opposite end. Trask threw a grenade and covered his eyes as the explosion knocked him back. Then the Sith came towards Trask. Corsen stabbed at the back of the Sith, but the move was blocked. Lifting a hand, Corsen was raised up from the ground and thrown to the wall. Grabbing Trask by his shirt, the Sith shoved the lightsaber into the soldier’s stomach. Throwing him down, the Dark Jedi looked at Corsen. Then a blue blade met the double bladed red one, and the laser swords clashed. The Jedi made a slash to the leg, and the Sith countered, spinning around and throwing out a foot into the Jedi’s chest. She was knocked back, and her lightsaber slipped from her grasp. The Sith raised his blade for the final blow, but before it could come down, his head was tossed from his shoulders. As the body fell, Corsen stood in its place, a vibroblade in his hand. Then, the Endar Spire shook violently. The door burst open and twenty Republic soldiers came in, battle ready. Medics took the body of Trask away before Corsen could object, and he never saw him again. He breathed slowly, tears threatening to overcome him. The Jedi got up and retrieved her lightsaber.

“ Thank you”, she said.

“ Thank you”, Corsen responded. Then he began to walk to the bridge, speed no longer important anymore. He had lost a friend.

Carth felt safe again. With the Sojourn, the most powerful ship in the fleet, attacking the Sith Cruiser, they would be alright. Bastila was sitting near a console: the ship had become calm enough that she could use her Battle Meditation. Carth looked outside to see the effects. If there were any, he didn’t know. Then, with no explanation, the Sojourn exploded. The fire seemed to reach out to the Endar Spire, and the shockwave ripped through the hull. The ship spun.

Trying to stand upright, Carth yelled, “ All hands to the escape pods.”

“ Ensign, I do not believe that to be the best course of acti-” Captain Shlo stopped her self. The crew looked at her expectantly. “ Listen to Ensign Onasi.”

Carth smiled for a moment, then turned his attention to Bastila, who was already standing.

Another soldier came to Carth and he said, “ I’ve been assigned to help you.”

“ Let’s get Bastila to the Escape Pods”, Carth responded. As they made their way off the bridge, he turned and saw Captain Shlo standing at her post, never to leave it again.

Corsen walked beside Bastila Shan, and Carth Onasi. As the Endar Spire rocked, (it had stopped rolling) they found it hard to keep their balance. Progress was slow, and a platoon of Sith came from behind them.

“ Get Bastila to the Escape Pods!” Corsen yelled. He knew how to deal with troopers.

As the other two ran, he put a hand behind his back.

“ Freeze Republic scum!” one of the Sith shouted.

“Of course. I’ll freeze” Corsen pulled out an adhesive grenade and threw it towards the troopers. “ You!”

The Sith had half a second to scream before their bodies were frozen completely. Corsen turned and ran to catch up with the others.

Carth motioned for Bastila to get in one of the Escape Pods. As she climbed in and shut the door, Carth took a deep breath. Then he activated the launch sequence. The Escape Pod flew away, to the planet suface. A moment later, Carth heard blaster shots outside the door, and readied his own pistols. Then the noise stopped, and Corsen came in, coughing. Carth breathed a sigh of relief, and opened the door to the last Escape Pod. Corsen climbed in, and Carth set the automatice launch timer to fifteen seconds. He climbed in as well, shut the door, and their pod flew away, just as the Endar Spire exploded.

Chap 2 next!
