Gen. Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars...

Going by Leia's holographic message to Obi-Wan given to him in Episode IV: A New Hope... is this another continuity flaw or plot hole?

I don't recall anything in the prequels that could be construed as Kenobi "serving" Bail Organa. They had a copule of short conversations at the end of the film (near the end of the war) but Organa was a Senator, and I don't recall that Obi-Wan even ever set foot on Alderaan.

About the only thing I can think of is that he "served" Organa in the generic sense of the Jedi Council "serving" the will of the Senate and the Republic, despite having some kind of autonomy (they also apparently serve the Chancellor, according to Episode I). By by that logic he "served" every single one of those thousands (?) of senators we see just as well. Was Kenobi ever a part of the Rebellion? I haven't watched the deleted scenes, but somehow I doubt he's in the ones where they talk about forming a rebellion. Apparently after Episode III he just dropped of Luke and went into exile there on Tatooine... and stayed there until the next episode.. right?

Or is Leia trying to butter him up by being overly flowery in her speech?

Anyway, I'm just curious if anybody else noticed this...

Well obviously she's kissing his ass, but with reason. He's an aging jedi knight and he is her only hope (you heard the line ).

I never even noticed that, it definately is a little bit of a stretch, but I guess it seems possible, or possibly it was a code of some kind to tell Obi-Wan to come out of hiding?

She wanted to anger Obi so that he'll actually come out to the Death Star for her. He wouldn't have cared otherwise.

You gotta think about it like this:

ROYAL HOUSE OF ALDERAAN - INT - THRONE ROOM
[Young Princess Leia Organa sits beside an aging Bail Organa]

LEIA: Tell me about the clone wars father

BAIL ORGANA: The Clone Wars was a terrible time in the history of the republic, young Leia. From right under our noses, the Emperor manipulated the senate to create an army to serve his own needs.

LEIA: Were there many battles ?

BAIL ORGANA : Yes, too many than I care to remember.....

LEIA: And the jedi ?

BAIL ORGANA: Yes, the jedi were valiant warriors, who in the end were betrayed by Palpatine, and by one of their own kind.

LEIA: Did you know many jedi ?

BAIL ORGANA: Yes. But after the great purge, there remained but two jedi. Only I know their location, and indeed they would come out of exile to help me if I called upon them.....remember this Leia, for one day you may need to call upon them to aid us in our struggle...

LEIA: Yes, father

Thats not too much of a stretch is it ??

I think she was being figurative. Baal Organa was one of the original creators of the Rebel Alliance. Since Obi-Wan ultimately served the ideals of the Old Republic, that Baal Organa held to, I guess you can say that Obi-Wan did "serve him".

Just my thoughts.

Leia sure is gullable for a Senator/Princess! Not only did she "remember her real mother" but she also thinks Obi-Wan served her father. Why doesn't she remember Obi-Wan "through the Force" like her mother? After all, she probably spent more time with him than with Padme! (post-birth anyway)

Aren't we splitting hairs here? LOL!

I mean I wonder why PRINCESS Leia was a Princess when her father was not a king, but a Senator. I wonder why the QUEEN of Naboo is an elected official, why not call him/her prime minister or president?

It's just one of those Star Wars "things". :-)

Still, the thoeries put forth by some here are very plausible.

They probably called her QUEEN Amidala to justify Leia being a Princess.

Why would they do that when Leia was not even born yet? The office of QUEEN of Naboo is an elected position. Padme Amidala was no longer queen when Leia was born, she was a Senator. Padme called her successor "Queen" so it was not just a courtesy title for Padme it was the title of the occupant of her office.

Also, Vader called Leia Your Highness in Episode IV, a title of royalty. This was when he didn't even know about the twins, Luke and Leia, thus making Leia his daughter. As far as he knew, she was the daughter of Senator Baal Organa of Alderaan.

Like I said, a Star Wars "thing". :-)

You don't understand what i'm saying.

They had already called Leia a Princess when they began the Prequels, even though it was an elected position, they didn't want the OT to seem even more different to the PT, with senators having royal titles, so they gave a character with an elected position a royal title as well.

Alderaan has a queen. Just not a king.

That's how Naboo is too.

Right, but Leia was not the daughter of the queen.

No, they called her queen to tie in that politics/royalty is a family thing.

Something I just found out recently. Senator Bail Organa was the head of the Royal Family of Alderan. That explains it then. I never really looked into his background. So that is why she is a Princess.

Interesting, as the head of the royal family he is also the delegate for Alderan in the Senate. That's not a position held by the head of state, usually. Another Star Wars "thing", apparently.

If you think about it, General Kenobi did serve with her father in the Clone Wars. I wonder if Lucas had an after thought about how to approach the relationships!?!?

Edit: After Thought:: Maybe her adopted family told her tidbits about her actual family???

Another Thought:: Why did she remember slight images of Padame, and Luke has no memory of her!?!?

I just thought she was being figurative. I pretty much agree with Astrotoy with the conversation, I bet something like that happened.

The jedi served the senate in the republic days. So technically it's correct.

I agree, but if some people don't except that explanation, then it's just the tinyest plot hole ever.

When Leia was describing her 'mother' to Luke, I originally compared that she was just describing her step mother. Another star wars 'thing' because Lucas never did establish a prelude before he started the first of the OT. Anyway, Baal Organa was killed during the explosion of Alderran so that would initially make Leia Queen or Princess of whatever is left. And besides, and Empire has and Emperor and/or an Empress. I don't know if it's called Prince or Princess but if she is the Princess then wouldn't the Emperor be her father. Unless ofcourse Lucas originally intended Leia to know Vader was her father and that's why she is PRINCESS and Vader is LORD vader.

She's the princess because she is part of the Alderaan noble family. Her step-mother, Bail's wife, was Queen.

Shes humbling him.

Or Lucas didn't really know what he was going to do with the two at the time. (The two being Organa and Obi Wan)
