Those darn Lion looking things..
I'm having trouble fighting those LIon lookin things... I forget the name of the beast but they really kill you. Is it just me or is there a way to that doesn't take up your life so much? I'm low on medpacs, too. Also, there's so many of them in the Matala fields.
In case you're not sure what I'm talking about, (SPOILER!!!!!!)
I'm speaking of those beasts in the fields after the whole scene where the who can't find her droid and stuff? They look like lions.
Oh yeah, I forgot to add. Somehow when I got to this part of KOTOR, the graphics totally lag. Like, REALLY. Changing the graphic options doesn't help. My video card is a Radeon 9800Pro.

There's an easy fix for the lag
Go into your KoTOR file and open up the text file that says swotor configuration settings. Then scroll down to where you see [graphics options] and add the line Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1
The lag will be gone.

Kath hounds? Yeah, they're everywhere and they have this annoying habit of respawning everytime you reenter the module. Great for XP...not so much on medpacks. If push comes to shove, remember that you can use rapid transit to get back to the Hawk (automatically restoring your health), however when you rapid transit back there will be more kath hounds waiting for you.
As for the lag, check out this thread. It says "TSL" but it works for KotOR too.
Hope that helps.

^ It's not just Kath hounds that do that. I think all minor enemies respawn if you re-enter a module.
Kath Hounds are weak against swords, in my experience. Try using a normal sword (ie Echani Ritual Brand) instead of a lightsaber, or equip it to one of your companions.

Others have answered the Dantooine lag fix much better than I can, so I'll leave that to the experts.
For the Kath Hounds:
Have at least one Jedi with 'Heal' in the party. No more medpacs needed (or at least fewer)!
Use concussion grenades. They're a big help, especially when you're the only Jedi in the party.
Have a party member equipped with a ranged weapon that has a good chance of stunning or a really good upgraded melee weapon.
Have at least 1 Jedi (which means you probably need to take Bastila with you when possible) with 'Stun'/'Stasis' or 'Fear'/'Horror', preferably Stasis or Horror. 'Throw Lightsaber' is nice--does some damage before they even get close.
Using 'Burst of Speed' or 'Slow' (on the Kath Hounds) and Flurry will help you out.
Have fun!

It's also important to equip the right party members with the right gear. Don't take Mission she's not good at combat, take either Carth or Zaalbar or Canderous. Canderous and Carth should have blasters, repeater and pistols respectivly, Zaalbar is a melee fighter, so vibroswords or some such. Equiping swords on Carth at this point is a good way to die.

Of course, I really like RedHawke's mods that make Mission and Carth Jedis.
Three Jedi womping on kath hounds will make the problem go away really fast.

Not only would you have the Jedi Carth by your side, but you can have another, the Jedi Mission Vao.. hehe. Having three Jedi lash on kath hounds is better than two, no?

My strategy is to identify the horn kath hounds and lob a concussion grenade at them. Once I have stasis or horror, I use that on them. Horror works better because it affects more than one at a time. Then I direct all my party against the most powerful ones. Once the horn kath hounds are dead, I go the smaller ones. After each group, I transit to the Hawk and back to restore health. It's a cheap and easy way to restore health without using force points or medpacks. I almost always go out initially with Carth and Canderous. Zaalbar is good, too, but I like having two guys in the back firing ranged weapons at them.

If you're a DS player, just blast them with Force Lighting. It takes away 4/5 of their health for me. Then a simple melee kills them. I'm low level 2. I was level 6 before promoting.
