When it comes to governments and leaders you have to be careful to distinguish between the things that they say and mean, and the things that they say because they feel they are expected.
Statements about attacking israel are likely the expected thing of any iranian government. I doubt anyone actually intends to drive israel into the sea anymore... but its just something you need to say. Like the way you have to portray yourself as a happily married christian to become president of the US.
