MI1 Music

If you have Monkey Island Madness, and play it on ScummVM, this will probably work for you. I found this very interesting.
Get the game off the disc and onto your computer so you don't need the disc to play it. You will find that the music in MI1 doesn't work if the cd is out. This is because the music is stored in tracks on the disc seperate to the game. You probably know that if you put the disc in a cd player the second track onwards is music from the game.
Now heres where it gets interesting. Put any music cd (preferably with about 20 tracks) into your computer. When you play MI1 the game will grab tracks from that cd and play them in different locations of the game!

Here is the list of locations and the track number allocated to it.
For example "9 - Scummbar" means that at the scumm bar, track 9 on the cd will play.

2 - Voodoo/Hell
3 - Melee Forest
4 - Following Shopkeeper/Jail
5 - Church
6 - Melee Map
7 - Chapter Screen
8 - Love Theme
9 - Scummbar
10 - Ghost Ship Jig
11 - ?
12 - Fettucini Bros
13 - LeChuck
14 - LeChuck Alt
15 - Monkey Island Map
16 - Credits
17 - After Elaine's Kidnap
18 - Main Titles
19 - Stan's
20 - Elaine's Kidnap
21 - ?
22 - Cannibals
23 - Melee Docks Ambience
24 - Melee Night Ambience

I accidentally found this out after playing the Sinbad soundtrack on my computer and playing monkey island.

Mmmmm, maggoty!

...this is the greatest discovery ever.

I'm done putting links in my signature because every time I do it just links to some old crap I've long since stopped updating.

Hee, it's almost like playing it with the sound off and having Winamp running in the background!

Heh, I remember finding this out by accident years ago, I think I was listening to "The Simpsons Sing the Blues", truly a great gaming experiance. Thanks for the reminder.

EDIT
Of course this brings about the oppertunity to create your own mix CD with tracks that you think would be interesting to hear in certain areas of the game. It would be interesting what music you guys would like playing in certain parts of the game.

Actually, despite my sarcasm, replacing the tracks with ones from CMI would be a great idea.

You can do this with "Sam and Max" hit the road too, but I believe there is only 4 tracks.

Haha, it actually would be kind of funny to replace that song Bumpus sings with like Metallica or something...

Actually, MI4 music might work better, since it has music specifically for Melee Island and Monkey Island.

Not really. I don't know if you've noticed, but there's a lot of great music in EMI (it's imo the best thing about it). And this is a way to give the music a decent game. I have no problems about it. Watching the overview of Monkey Island in MI1 with the map-music from EMI is great. And the Scumm Bar as well.

That's actually a pretty good idea. Having just quickly thought about it, you could probably replace every track in MI1 with a suitable MI4 counterpart, many of which were designed for exactly the same locations. There might be a few compromises such as losing the excellent ghost ship dance, but I guess once you've played through MI1 a million times the prospect of freshening it up somewhat with different music would probably be perfectly acceptable.

I think I might come up with something once I'm a bit bored, possibly taking the odd part from CMI in certain situations.

If someone could turn these into two different tracks, they'd work pretty damn well.

Has anyone noticed that the Melee Map music in MI4 is the same as the Monkey Island Map music in MI1? Anyway I'm not sure abut the LeChuck Cutscenes because there aren't any decent LeChuck themes in MI4 I could use there. MI3 on the other hand has perfect ones. "LeChuck's Hold" for LeChuck theme and "Bloodnose the Pirate" for Lechuck Alt.

That's like low-tech adding your own soundtrack to it...that's where Microsoft got their idea!
