Coding Tools?

Hey Everyone! I'm outfitting a programming computer and I need some help finding some good free programs for it as I've not spent much time in the programming scene before this. (well, not since JK was still big)

I'm setting it up so I can work with Hardware Description Languages, specifially the Verilog flavor.

Right now for an editor I'm using Jedit with an HDL error checking plugin. Is there a better option for an editor?

I'm using Iverilog for a compiler. It's DOS based but works great. I imagine there's other good ones out there.

Also, I need a good engineering calculator for this computer. I have a TI-92 but I'd like something I can run on the computer that's more robust than the windows calc. It doesn't have to be RPN.

Any other program suggestions would be appreciated!

What kind of features are you looking for/require of the editor/calculator?

Verilog (HDL) Highlighting, syntax check, line numbering, anything else useful.

For the calculator I'd like some nice Binary/Hex/Decimal conversion features and maybe a buffer window that showed what you've been entering or something along those lines.

Not sure which editors'd support Verilog highlighting...

As for the calculator, Mathematica has always been a favorite of mine (there's a student edition if you don't feel like shelling out $1000+ for it). I'm not really sure what else would run on Windows, but if that's not a problem, I could recommend a few good engineering/scientific calculators for Linux.

I'm still unsure about emacs.... how can anything with that many hoops to jump through just to set up be worth it?
