Damn you RedHawke... I gave DDO a try with my trial and have now found out that I'm hooked >.<

So much for hating MMO's.. DDO was (is) extremely fun, of course learning the controls was hilarious.. as are watching everyone else Everyone's a swinging & jumping crazy.. hehehe

Didn't take long to get in the swing of things, and hooked up with a few other players who actually wanted to RP rather than 'pwn'

Started out as a rogue (aka trap-monkey) and having a blast. Tumbling has so much more dimension now... something I had always pictured but no other game has implemented.. me likey.

I too would like to know that trick. I never could get enough platinum to buy much of anything.. and Im definitely not buying from a 'gold farmer'

Now I'm back playing galaxies again on several different free 3 week trials they have offered. During my absense, no new expansions or real content [some new pvp zones have been added >.>] and it took them a year to get all the professions their "expertise system" a la WoW.

Coming back, the game has been fun again intially, but I won't be sticking around for too much longer. Which is a good thing anyways, I don't need to be playing MMO's heh. So i'll be sitting back and waiting for Kotor 3 to come out. It might be time to re-install Jedi Academy lol

So I played DD Online for a bit... the default key configs are screwy. Good thing you can remap them. I like the graphics, not spectacular, but way better than WoW I think. Monsters dont seem to drop loot... so am I supposed to just get money and stuff from quests? I also dont like that I cant sit on chairs, and that I cant turn my chara around so I can see her face. Oh and leveling seems to take forever...

Im on Aurenal (sp), Kanako Windwalker, elf sorceress. ^_^

To anyone who plays Guild Wars:

I'm so confused. It seems like there's five or six different expansions for Guild Wars. Are they all just add-ons to the main game, or are they separate games? And which one(s) are most people playing right now?

I need a good MMO to play with my friends, but I don't like the monthly fee so much.

I've been following the forums etc, but the farming runs I check only provide with me a little amount of gold.
I make most of my money off of 55 monk farming in the Crystal Desert. An hour of farming will usually net me around 10-12 plat, so that keeps my bank pretty well-stocked. I'll also bring a few keys around when I'm adventuring in hopes of finding something nice out of a chest. Most of the time it's not so good, but occasionally, I'll get something really cool and sell it off for lots of plat.

As for my armor, it's really the only thing I spend my money on in the game, since I'm pretty content with using the max stats collectors' weapons. It also helps to have a great guild that provides you with crafting materials when you need it.

They are separate games in and of themselves. The three out right now are Guild Wars: Prophecies (the original), Guild Wars: Factions and Guild Wars: Nightfall. Nightfall is the latest chapter and what most people seem to be playing nowadays. You're not required to have the other two, but if you do, you can link the games together and have your characters from one campaign participate in the storylines of the other games.

I am also a Guild Wars addict. I'm currently in rehab though. I pick it up again after a few months.

I started playing WoW over Summer Break and I made a bunch of characters trying to find out which I found the most fun. I've played almost every class (and yes, I was a Legolas, but that's behind me) and my highest was a 39 rogue named Alastan on Thunderlord, but my brother and I re-rolled on Staghelm to be with some friends a short while ago, so I'm only a level 10 tauren druid named Myttyns. The only thing I don't like is the fact Staghelm is a PvE sever.

That's just people complaining. The vanish thing only happens when you're fighting hunters, warlocks, and shammies and they have to order their pet to attack you, and I don't remember anything about stealth issues.

Yup, I play with some of my RL freinds when I can but I also play with some other 'regulars' on my primary server and it gets pretty cool. We do quests way over our level with only 3-4 characters. It's a blast.

Yup, it is cool, though I started with a Cleric (Everyone loves Clerics! Though a hint for everyone: If playing a Cleric do not be afraid to ask for donations or wands as it is not your responsibility to purchase all of them, and with many of the good players you won't even have to ask, they'll just do it out of habit. This is the only way to keep some money as a Cleric as wands are expensive. )

I just started messing with a Rogue myself... ol' GreyHawkeI Stray Hand... she comes from a long line of Stray Hands.

But I have a Paladin that uses Tumble quite a bit, my Fighter too.

I play primarily on the Aundair Server, so if you create a 'toon' on that one and see a RedHawke or GreyHawke running around the odds are it is me.

Monsters only have collectables on them, sometimes, that you can turn in to collecters for items. Some collectabes are really useless as they don't return really good items, others are darn handy. The chests that appear are the monsters 'treasure'.

You can get money from chests and breakables, and by selling the stuff you pick up and get from chests. I am a 'classic' delver I try to break everything and pick up everything that isn't nailed down.

You can indeed see the front of your character just press the mouse wheel or center mouse button and the camera should rotate, or is it the left mouse button? Hmm... one of them will do it.

I actually play with mouse look on it gives me more control.

The levelling system is a little slow, unless you are pushing the 'envalope', if you find you aren't gettin 'ranks' fast enough, then playing quests at higher difficulties will result in more XP. Besides you need to play most all the quests on 'Elite' difficulty anyway.

Thumbs down

Well, I guess DD Online doesnt want me to play their game, Ive gotten nothing but errors. Ive tried reinstalling it three times now! Ive tried installing their out-of-date .net framework separately, and even downloaded some files from their site and stuck them in the folder...

I cant even get past that launcher screen to start downloading the patch data... this really isnt worth the trouble for a free trial. >_<

Were you trying to get on this morning... say from 7 AM EST to 2 PM EST? Because this morning/early afternoon, all worlds were offline for a Hotfix... they do that occasionally.

If you can't login be sure to check the DDO main web page and or the DDO forums to see if they are applying a hotfix.

I tried out the EVE:Online 14-day trial. I found the game to be a wee-bit complex and not really made for the "average" MMO player since EVE is pretty unique and hard to learn at first.
I really liked the graphics though and It's always cool to fly around in space even though you can't have a Millenium Falcon.

Currently I'm playing Guild Wars, and World of Warcraft, but not the latter very much because I'm trying to avoid becoming addicted. I actually have enjoyed Guild Wars for the past 18 months. Here's a picture of my Warrior in his sexy Kurzick armour:

and here's a picture of my Necromancer in her sexy Shing Jea Armour:

I've been playing World of Warcraft since the game went live. A little less now that I have a kid, but I have a lvl 60 Night Elf Druid and a host of lower level characters on Hellscream server. I also play Battlefield 2142 online. I tried SWG back when it came out and I had trouble getting into it, and I've heard from too many people that were playing before SOE changed the game mechanics that the game sucks now so probably won't go back to it. I'm very much looking forward to Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and may give that a try when it comes out. Also on the distant horizon is Star Trek Online which I'm very interested in.

Id give SWG a try if it wasnt run by Sh**ty Online Entertainment (lol). Eve I kinda want to try, it looks similar to Homeworld I think, which I thought was rather fun.

I've tried a few MMOs, and the only one I found to be "worthy" of my money is World of WarCraft. Had some fun with Guild Wars back in summer 2005, but the lack of any kind of PvE content turned me down after 3 months.

Aravius (human mage) on Cenarion Circle
Mordeclah (undead warlock) on Steamweedle Cartel

Both RP realms, of course, to avoid those jerks that lurk around on the regular servers.

@ Aash Li : I *almost* bought galaxies for the sake of trying a SW MMO. The fact that the trial downloaded from their own site was broken (missing files that caused crashes) turned me down.

Heh, until the PvP servers are down and we get flooded with evil incarnate...

It's cool that you're on the same server as me At least for the Horde. Maybe I'll have to kill you someday.

@ Luke : Mmm... I love all those level 1 gnomes named myserverisdown212lol2

I'll be sure to drop a few curses on every human rogue I see in the battlegrounds. And if he's named Carthes, I'll even throw in a corruption Still, I would probably end up dead because the sole purpose of this character is to grind cash and mats for the incoming blood elf Me no care about his equipment.

@ Count : My cousin played Eve a bit and showed me. I must say that those 30 mins trips with an additional 30 mins of docking is a bit too extreme for me.

Yeah I tried Eve so far... its ok. Its different. The chargen is neat. I seem to have a thing for messing around with chargen. Even when I get horribly bored with the game itself, I still end up having fun making charas. lol

The graphics in Eve look nice, its definitely Homeworld 2 put into an MMO setting. The people themselves could use a graphics update though. And yes, the tutorial is LONG but its atleast interesting.

Warcrack is boring the crap out of me too much right now... I think Im gonna log on to get my presents on Christmas and then put the game down for a winters nap. Maybe when the xpack comes out, and I can play a cute Draenie I wont be bored.

WoW can get boring if you play too much. I took my account down last winter myself, and would have done so again in october (until Burning Crusade at least) if my cousin hadn't started playing. I couldn't leave the little troll alone

2 weeks ago I started playing Flyff (recomended by a friend) and I actually like it, and mostly I don't like rpg's KOTOR was the only one and now also Flyff but beyond that they all suck IMO.

Flyff... hahahahahaha!

haha
hah...
haaa...

yeah, Flyff was fun-ish, until you reached like level 45 or so... and then the grind wears your soul down to a whimpering pathetic little being begging for mercy. The quests are horrid, the drop rates for some of higher level quest items make Warcrack's look common. The player-run shops are ridiculously over priced. The grind to level past level 60 makes the grind from 1 to 60 seem like fun. You think your soul is begging for mercy on the way to 60? Try leveling to 100. Its enough to make anyone emo.
So what made Flyff fun-ish? Well, theres the flying.. I loved the flying part. And there was aeriel combat which was pretty fun too. Dress up... even if 90% of the clothes you got from monsters were for guys or the other classes, it was still fun to get new sets and dress up. The cash-shop sets were also lots of fun. I had a few friends I could get sets from to wear. You could change your hairstyle and your hair colour too.

Oh, and dont get me started on gpotato's pathetic attempts at "events"...

That most clothes you get from monster are for different classes I agree with, but most clothes I find are for female not male. I play this with some friends (most are from a higher lvl). The game is fun to play but not if you play it to much than it can get boring.

Well Im not trying to make you quit, even if thats what it sounded like... if YOU are loving the game, and having a blast, by all means keep playing! Have at it!

But youll eventually get bored with it I think...

Oh, and dont expect them to implement stuff very quickly, or fix bugs... they still havent added some stuff that was promised over a year ago, and theres still bugs that were there when I was playing Im sure. And their shoe-horned-in version of Game Gaurd might make your PC unstable...

I used to play Galaxies, and as you can see from my signature, I'm going to pick it up again soon. Also theres a free Pre-NGE version at www.swgemu.com. Its free to register. They recently canceled their stress test because some things went wrong. The front page is up. Note: SWGEmu is still under construction but you can join FUTURE servers. I also play WoW every now and then. I don't get paid a big enough allowance a month so I can't pay and I need my mom to change her credit card number because the one she has listed is out of date. Other than that I used to play the MxO (Matrix Online). I'll probably pick that back up to.

i quit...i was playing SWG for the longest time too, but it just sucked after commando and spy and medic got their expertise and basically made bh a crap profession...and that's not all, the rank system is what really did my profession in. sucks. but i'm over it, glad to not be bothered by it anymore and i have been playing other games. i tried out LOTR online on the closed beta, that was ok aside from it feeling too much like what i just quit, so i deleted both games. galaxies i don't think i'll ever return to, due to the fact that majority of people playing it now as opposed to 2 years ago, are pretty immature when it comes to pvp....constant OOC and exploiting. o well!

I might try out archlord, one of my friends i met on galaxies plays that.

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

Don't forget to check out SWGEmu. Its free, and its GOING TO BE Pre-NGE. But don't forget that its still under construction. Also people are thinking (and posting) about new ideas for the game. Such as how to implement the screenshots into the actual game.

I hope the SWGEmu will work out, SOE didn't half wreck a game full of potential with the CU and NGE patches - the worst part was taking out something like 27 different career paths in the game to only leave 9 - a stupid decision if you ask me! What's The Matrix Online like? It's supposed to be quite good - but is it?

I just quit due to financial reasons, but yes, MxO (Matrix Online) has had a massive rehaul since it was bought by SOE. Unlike most other MMOs I've played, its player RP community is incredible, since mostly everyone is up for it. Solo RPing is relatively addictive too.

About 95% of all bugs that were there at release were fixed, so those crappy reviews at Gamespot and IGN, amongst other sites, are invalid.

Flexibility is great. You can jump, you can flip, you can hyper-jump, that is, hop from building to building, or over the building if you so care. Upload Kung Fu if you're going to the dojo, or dual handguns if PvPing, etc etc etc.

I really hope I can get back into it over the summer when I can get my finances under control again.

Oh, and sorry for the thread bump, I just couldn't let this go unanswered.

Playing both GW and WOW.

I quit WoW for a long time, friend recently got me back into it. I'm still pissed at him because I don't like knowing that my life is being sucked away, and yet being able to do nothing about it because...well...I have WoW.

I still mess around with my GW characters though.

I don't think pretending to be a girl in real life to get free items counts as roleplaying.
Sure it does. It's con-artistry and scamming, a pretty useful way of Roleplaying, if done correctly and allowed within the rules of the games. There are some games out there that allow scamming of other characters like Eve (not scamming of passwords, just of items), as long as the other characters have the right to go and kill the scammer for doing such a thing.

EDIT: Misunderstod. Pretending to be a girl in real life uses the metagame and therefore does not count as RPing. Being a girl within the game and then "flirting" with the "pigeon" to gain items however is indeed RPing. I'd bet it's somewhat realistic within real life as well.

I play OGame! ^.^

Other than that, I want to get Flyff. It probably isn't as good as Guild Wars, but it's free!

I used to have FlyFF. Not that great. Combat music loops which becomes annoying. Lag. So very helpful people playing with you...perhaps I just stumbled on a bad group...
