I just don't think I could ever bring myself to spend the extra money on hardback fiction so I always buy fictitious novels in paperback. Now when it comes to non-fiction works like Sun Tzu's
The Art of War and Keynes'
General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money for example, those types of books should IMHO only be purchased in hard cover.
