A couple of things came up at the Intel Developer Forum recently:

Intel dismisses AMD's triple core threat
^ This guy cracks me up *unimpressed look*

Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (45nm) announced
^ Who's gonna want to buy that when you can O/C some of the lower and much cheaper ones to insane levels anyways?

Dual CPU Quad SLI motherboard revealed
^ Not exactly mainstream, but it certainly makes you drool (and want to buy a nuclear power plant!)

5.56GHz Penryn breaks three benchmark records in two minutes
^ That is quite cool in many ways!

Intel to make high-end GPUs
^ More competition can only mean less spendage

What's the best is that I know about a dozen Lan tourney gamers who BRAG and BRAG about their QX6850..... theyre going to be do depressed that their uber chip has already been superceded... off to ebay boys !!

^^^You should tell them that spending ~$1200.00 on performance that they could have gotten for approximately a quarter of the price by buying and overclocking a Q6600 is nothing to brag about.

Q6600s are selling for $270.00. Bump the FSB up from 1066MHZ to 1333MHZ and what do you have? A QX6850.

Anyone who buys a QX6850 is clearly missing the point as to what makes C2Q so great.

Indeed! I don't quite see the point in buying a QX6850...

Also not only you pay 5x the price of a Q6000 but the CPU will be outdated as fast as the Q6600. I prefer to buy cheaper, get almost the same performance and replace more often (without too much guilt) : it's cheaper and offers a better overall performance in the long run.

So Intel has at long last officially confirmed they will be entering the discrete graphics market. 'Twill be interesting to see how they do in the gaming graphics segment as this introduces a 3rd GPU that game devs would need to support. Not sure how that will work out.

It would probably take more effort from Intel (me thinks they'll jump on the DX10.1+ bandwagon then) to release the necessary drivers and make sure they release them with full DX and OpenGL support...I don't think the devs should worry too much about it.

D333, power pc builders and owners are the tech equivalent to revheads(our word for an exuberant motoring enthusiast). ie. price is immaterial, and quite often functionality too Most of it is about showing off

These differ from "roll up your sleeves and pass me that coolant" overclockers, who will want to show off a 1337 clockspeed on an older/standard CPU.

I was offered one, but declined due to my thorough dislike of Intel, especially after recently reading they axed 5000 managerial staff..... taking total lay-offs to nearly 11,000 over the last 3 years(their target being 15,000 by circa 2009)

Doesnt that want to make you race off an buy an Intel product ?? Not me.

lolz.... I like the fact that an international juggernaut like Intel has a gutsy competitor...who've got to where they are by hard work, and with enough business sense to achieve all that with a fraction of Intel's infrastructure.

But a company that likes to slice 15,000 jobs to make a prettier show at wall street doesnt deserve any support, IMO.
