LucasArts' Jim Ward confirms Wii lightsaber game in the works

When asked about the possibility of a lightsaber game for the Nintendo Wii during a Hollywood & Games Summit panel discussion LucasArts President Jim Ward responded,
Quote:
We’re all over that, and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It’s a lot of fun, and we’ll get there.
Mr. Ward also said,
Quote:
There’ll be some stuff out this Fall - it’s going to be a lot of fun.
So the question inquiring minds want an answer for: was Mr. Ward referring to the Lego Star Wars game scheduled for a 2007 Q4 release or an entirely new and as yet unannounced LucasArts game for Nintendo Wii? Perhaps more will be revealed at E3 2007.

Well, there were rumours of this, and frankly, it was inevitable. This has the potential to become the coolest thing out there for the Wii, which could bring LA back into the limelight (which will be beneficial to all us fans). Let's hope they don't blow it.

I couldn't imagine _not_ having a lightsaber game for Wii.

Uh oh.

Does anyone want to trade their Wii for my 360?

I also wonder if LA is going to announce a version of The Force Unleashed for Nintendo Wii. I find it interesting that TFU's official website lists LucasArts as making the game for "Next-Generation Consoles" whereas Krome Studios and n-Space are listed as developing the game for PS2, PSP, and DS.

Well, I have a feeling that a lot of hopes have been squashed.

Wii Lightsaber game revealed

It may not be what you expected, but it may end up being a good game all the same.

Hell yes, Rhettski. LucasArts was the best developer. Republic Commando was their latest, and it was a decent game. Why can't they keep making games themselves?

Wasn't there already a lightsaber game?

In my school, there is the Star Wars Arcade, that takes place from Ep. 4-6. One level, Ep. 5, have you play as Luke Skywalker and battle Darth Vader. You have a lightsaber, Darth Vader have a lightsaber, and you duel using a joystick.

Isn't that a good Lightsaber game?

There was this one.. but it was a standalone type system (non-console), and doesn't look to be quite the "quality" item..

Reviews are great though..

With Odin by my side, arise ye thread, ARISE!!!

Got news. Mark Montuya from LucasArts has said that Lego Star Wars - The Complete Saga is going to be "just a taster" for Wii Lightsaber combat.

What does that mean? The motion-tracking Wii Lightsaber game we were so hyped up about is coming out in the future, and it's NOT Lego Star Wars!

Sounds good. I still wonder if the lightsaber game Mark Montuya hinted at is going to be The Force Unleashed for Wii. But IMO that would be both good and bad. Good for those that own a Wii and bad as in another slap in the face for PC gamers. *sigh* If that happened then TFU would be released on all current-gen consoles and handhelds and one last-gen console, but PC would be left in the cold. So basically everybody else but PC. Sometimes it sucks to be the red-headed stepchild.

If FU comes out for the Wii, I'm going to do anything to get it, even if it means losing my reputation as a PC-Purist!

THANKS LUCASARTS.

Finally, we know what the mysterious Wii Lightsaber game will be.

Force Unleashed For Wii Confirmed

I'm very excited about this as both a Wii owner and Star Wars fan. BTW you can discuss this story in our Force Unleashed forums.

Nice, should hopefully put the Wii controller to good use.

(Though it makes LAs claim that the PC is too weak to handle the game all the more ridiculous, since I doubt the Wii has more powerful hardware than your average action gamer PC. )

Great news for Wii gamers!

But I've got to agree with stoffe. This announcement adds injury to insult for PC gamers.

Lets look at this for a second before we get too excited.

Follow the following steps:

1. Check out what other games Krome studios has been churning out.

2. Look at what other SW titles they're working on and for what systems.

3. Sob uncontrollably because of the crappy PS2 port we'll be getting of TFU for the Wii.

4. Repeat #3 as needed.

I really wish there weren't true but that's the way it looks like this cookie is crumbling.

For the lazy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krome_Studios

It appears that Rhett speaks the grim, saddening truth.

Quote:
1. Yay, awesome game comin out!
2. OMG Awesome.
3. Wait, it's not coming out, a ****tier game is.
4. You wait, the awesome game IS coming out.
5. Wait guys, it may not be as awesome as it looks.
I can see where this is going...
