So does anyone know any decent .avi > zune compatible video converters? I've been scrounging around and everything I've seen is either way to pricey (i.e. not free) or broken.

This will probably do it, although you will have to fiddle with the settings a bit. I've used this to convert video for my Zen Vision M.

Thank a lot man.

I checked it out and it seems pretty straight forward. It takes about 40 minutes or so to convert a standard movie, though, so I think I'll wait until tomorrow when I have a bit more time to test out if I can play it on my new Zune

Thats why you always do it overnight. Create a large queue of videos and movies and TV shows and just hit convert and leave it on over night.

Yeah that is exactly what I just did but for whatever reason I woke up to an error.

I'll try it again while I'm at Church.

EDIT: Yeah, just tried it again and got a "No file outputted" error message.

Odd

EDIT 2: Tried it a third time after realizing that there was a preset for the Zune and that worked but for whatever reason when I play it back on my Zune I can't fast forward. I"ll guess I'll keep messing with it.

You could try Super, the system sucking buggy but will work most of the time video convert-it-all. http://www.erightsoft.info/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe

I didn't try Super yet, but I was able to add the .avi file to a new project in Windows Movie Maker and simply save it as a .wma. That worked great and it was a great quality but it took about 37 minutes to save the file.

^ Works like a charm.

New firmware supports Mpeg4.

That's with MediaCoder, by the way.

Very awesome, Rox.

I just added the first 5 episodes of my Death Note collection, the first half of Cataclysmo, and Cube with this

My Zune came bricked, the screen won't turn on. I can even add files and stuff to it but the screen is black. I can see the back light and I can even randomly hit buttons and start hearing music, but it's not looking good. I wouldn't want to keep it anyway, there is no folder explorer so I can't create folder trees. That means that I would have to put every single video file in a single large video folder, not freaking cool.

I just hope I get my damn money back soon.

Oh dang man, that really sucks

You ordered from woot.com right? I guess that always a threat when buying refurbished items. Are you going to still purchase one, though? You have the invisible shield, after all

I'm really glad my Zune was in tact. I was a little worried because I tend to not buy OEM or refurbished items, but the price was just to tempting. I guess being risky paid off in my experience

EDIT: There are entirely too many smileys in this post.

My computer and my TV is refurb, so I've had an alright experience with them. And about the invisible shield, two things... First, I should have only gotten the screen protector because the rest of the body seems pretty resistant to scratches already. And second, I already applied the shield before I realized it was dead- I just thought it wasn't charged enough. Those shields don't come off re-usable after a few minutes of drying, either. So I have a dead piece of $85 equipment that I realize I don't need, and a wasted $30 shield.

That, and I found out I had accidentally written over my brother's Mass Effect save when I got on, so eh. No school, no work, I should feel good but I'm really in a sour mood now. : \

I was actually really pleased when I got my hands on the case. I'd never actually held a Zune before I bought it, and I was thoroughly surprised when I saw how scratch resistant it is. I tried digging into it with my finger nail and nothing, and I carry it around in my pocket all the time and I haven't even noticed a single mark on it yet. I still might get the screen shield, though, just because I'd hate to get a scratch on it's beautiful screen.
