Adamantly, the Elcor are not stoic. Merely incapable of expressing emotion.

Gleefully, I would say that Mass Effect is the best RPG of the 21st Century, to date.

That is a bold and debatable statement, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you're wrong.

It's definately game of the year and by far the best game I've played in quite a while. It's addiction level and re-play value are extremely high.

However, There are things that could have better, or perhaps will be in the next two installments.

As far as RPG's go, the way you level up in a game is what gives it it's distinct character. Bioware obviously pays great attention to this.

The leveling-up system in KotOR (IMO) is a bit better. When leveling in KotOR, you seem to have more control of the development of all of your character's attributes. This is especially the case in Jade Empire.

I will say this about Bioware's RPG's.
I like the way they consistently use the morality coin for us to flip and experiment with, letting our conversations and actions determine our character's moral stance.

I’m more impressed that Mass Effect actually meets Corinthian’s definition of an RPG. I’ve played games with better stories, better game play…, but for the total package Mass Effect would have my vote for best RPG, or game for that matter, of the 21st Century to date.

They do express emotion, but it's all very subtle for a human to perceive. Body language and pheromones do what their speech is incapable of.

According to the Codex "... Elcor emotions make a human smile seems as subtle as a fireworks display."

I wonder if that makes them suitable for conducting a interrogatory...

Mass Effect, without a doubt, would be my pick as the "best RPG of the 21st". And hey, don't get my wrong, Knights of the Old Republic was fantastic and is second in my eyes, but Mass Effect just seems to have it all, I think.

And boy does it feel good to be playing Mass Effect and my Xbox 360 again. I didn't really play ANY video games during most of February. And right now I'm just ripping through my first playthrough and I'm closing to finishing it up.

For me, it's not the best western RPG of the XXI. It's, however, the second masterpiece of Bioware. Guess who comes first?

So far almost everything Bioware makes is a masterpiece.

21st century, huh? I donno. I think I was still locked deeper into KotOR more when it first dropped. For me the story was better. Graphically, of course MassEffect, hands down.

Maybe it's a lightsaber thing.

Ctrl_Alt_Del is referring to American-style RPGs as opposed to Japanese-style RPGs.

I think what sets aside Mass Effect for me is the fact the people who made it did an incredible amount of backstory to the game, the presentation of which did not force the player into learning it unless they wanted to. That's why i have so much respect for it as a currently stand alone rpg. I'll take it anyday over permanantly spikey haired characters with colossal eyes and oddly oversized swords.

^ You're not referring to DMC 4 are you? Because if you are.....

Its one of the best RPG's around, along with Lost Odyssey IMO (Although Odyssey's story was a little plain but still good) it's too early to be judged BEST RPG or RPG of the 21st century, there are still some that haven't come out yet, maybe Mass Effect 2 would beat the original

No, he's referring to the Final Fantasy series. But DMC would be another example, but I'd hesitate to call DMC an RPG. It's more of an Action Game like Ninja Gaiden.

Just finished the downloadable content “Bring Down the Sky” and thought it was well worth both my money and my time. It actually gave me a challenge, which was something Mass Effect has not done in a while. It took me four or five tries to get by one part of the game. Even combat in the Mako was a slight challenge again.

I thought of both Ctrl_Alt_Del and Cygnus Q’ol as I played through the downloadable content and now I really wish all the UNC were this detailed. Some slight disappointments, but overall it was great. One part of the story really had the “I Remember Me” feel.

I hope this increase in AI and tactics are what we can expect in ME2.
...and future downloads as well.

I think I know which part in which you are referring when you had to multi-load. There's only one way through, and it's not very obvious.
At least I only found one way.

Rockets attacks were a bit stepped up as well. No more of that rocking back and forth, long range shots on rocket launchers. They anticipate much better in this one.

They packed in quite a few treats into this one little package. Visually stunning as usual. I think this is the first time I've stopped in the middle of a firefight to watch the sky. I think at one point, I heard an Aerosmith song playing.

As usual, I wish it could have been longer. Loved the new race. They seem ruthless enough to survive. Of course, not if they cross me. I have a feeling we'll see them again.

I went Paragon as usual, not really sure this time if it was the right thing.

I love my Colossus armor heavily shielded and my shottie with explosive ammo. While it cools, I quick-switch and let my team roll. But, that bad boy is one and done with almost any enemy.

I have heared mixed reviews about 'Sky' and at first was weary about purchasing it. Imagine my surprise when i do go to get that new content and find out X-box live only accepts credit cards and not debit..

I hope it comes out on the pc version then.

American Express - Don't leave home without it!

Then again HerbieZ, you could always purchase from a local merchant using your debit card.

You sir are correct. I was too hard headed and kept trying the same way over and over. Hey, I was playing as a solider again, and my normal playing strategy with a solider is shoot first and ask questions later.

Mass Effect 2 is going to be a 360 exclusive. Given recent events I think we all know what that means >_>.

Quote:
Mass Effect 2, the second in a planned trilogy of sci-fi role-playing games from developer BioWare, will be exclusive to the Xbox 360, but possibly for a short time only, a company spokesman told the British gaming site CVG today.

Electronic Arts bought BioWare in January, prompting speculation that the next two installments in the Mass Effect trilogy would be multiplatform in one form or another.

"I believe we'll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time," BioWare senior manager Matt Atwood told CVG. "We're still working out the details on that, but we've had a great relationship with Microsoft and done very well."

Atwood also said a PC version of Mass Effect 2 is also likely. "We haven't solidified the plans yet but we're headed in the direction where we want to be as close as possible [on PC]," he said.
