To serve mankind.
So, if you're a fan of the Twilight Zone like myself, you'll get the ref, if not, here's the short version: Aliens come to earth, all nice and helpful, have mysterious book, take people(willingly) to "paradise" and are actually planning to eat them, and the book is a cookbook.
So, with resources dwindling and the human population continuing to grow, along with food-animal populations growing, there is both less and less space and fewer and fewer resources to support them and us, we come upon fewer and fewer non-vegan solutions. Fish populations are dwindling as well while water temperatures rise and reefs and their food sources dwindle while we continue to fish larger and larger numbers.
So, of course, in the footsteps of Johnathan Swift, I come to you asking: What do you think of eating people? We procreate like mad so we're certainly not a resource that's going away. There are several varities and like animals, we'll taste like what we eat, so I'm certain everyone would have a different flavor.
This would also do well to thin the human population. Depending on how many people we'd need to eat a year, we could easily reduce the human population very quickly, allowing for a much smaller impact on our planet and a much smaller reliance on other animals for food. And once the population has been significantly reduced, we could stop and return to eating something else.
I mean, we're already heading in that direction, with PETA's request that Diary Queen use human breast milk and that Swiss(or was it Swedish?)
restaurant that has already said 75% of it's milk use will now be supplied by human female donors.
So what do you all think? Should we being serving mankind?

Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!11!!
Seriously, though, I think that population control would be a better solution. How would you determine who eats and who gets eaten? Lottery? Class structure?

Population control how? Birthing limits? We'd never be able to enforce them in more rural countries where some of the biggest growth it. Their genocides do a better job at that honestly.
Europe's population growth is in the negatives, the US is pretty 50/50, China is slowing, India is slowing. I mean, killing people would be population control, but it'd be a waste of good food too. If you're gonna kill it, you should at least not let it go to waste.
EDIT: ninjaed by your edit: I dunno, lottery might be best. I dunno how old you'd have to allow people to get before they'd be no good. A "food caste" might work, but castes have tended to fall apart in the past. Considering the amount of meat we eat annually, we'd be culling large populations pretty fast.

Fill the water supplies with contraceptives, curb that teen pregnancy issue. Our older women can go into an early menopause for the betterment of society. And we men can take our man-buds in stride. Sacrifice for the betterment of tomorrow and what not.

After seeing the crap that some people stuff their faces with, do you really wanna eat them? ;o
The sun goes down and the sky reddens, pain grows sharp.

I suppose if people ate people then we wouldn't let them eat that stuff. Everyone wouldn't want anyone to eat bad food because they're looking on the bright side, that they might be eating them, instead of the other way around.

The irony would be if somebody ate you for the same reason.

I'd comment on this, but it's fairly obvious this isn't a serious thread.

After reading the post I was struck with a memory of cannabalism and that is in the Catholic tradition of receiving communion. Since the priest says "This is my body" the wafer becomes the body of Christ. Hence when people receive communion, they are in fact eating Christ.
It was an interesting concept brought up in a past anthropology class and we had begun reading a reading on the sexual politics of meat. Most people never thought of it that way. So the question would be why do we find eating people disgusting when Catholics in particular have been doing it for 2000 years?

Because it's not literally body of Christ, it's symbolism, much like a lot of things in the Bible

I know it is symbolic but think about it and how Catholics in particular view the 'Body of Christ.' Even Christ says "take this bread an eat it. This is my body which will be given up for you." So in a sense that is cannibalism.

That's a bit of a petty and degrading argument. I think everyone is aware that Christ's body at no point was ever eaten. He was speaking metaphorically that with his sacrifice comes their bounty.
It's not the first time religions have done something like this.
“This body is not me. I am not caught in this body.
I am life without limit.”

I know that it is methaphorical Slitherino. I was merely reiterating a discussion in an anthropology theory class. It was an actual question posed by the instructor and even I said it was metaphorical, etc.
It was an alternative to what at first I thought a humourous suggestion. If we really want to reduce pop, then maybe less griping on abortion.

It was a metaphor in that he was also a lamb. Eating of the flesh of a lamb in essence. It wasn't about the eating of a person. I even read one translation which made that statement more of "Take this bread of mine and eat it so you will be saved." than actually discussing eating his body(Guess that's the problem with translating a dead language into another dead language and translating that into English). The bible in other areas also makes it quite clear that eating another person is a sin.
