I was watching Episode II the other day...
...I noticed a clone trooper say to Mace Windu, "Sir. I have five special commando units awaiting your orders, sir."
If I'm not mistaken, clone commando squads have four members in a squad, not five. Was this an inconsistency error or is there a commando squad that has five members?
By the way, if this thread is in the wrong place, please tell me and I'll move it.

He may have been referring to five squads, with each squad being a unit. Or maybe there was a Commando who's squad had died and he was made a temporary addition to another squad.
I, for one, approve of the Ewoks. They're a fine representation of the primitive natives doing better in their own environment than the invading white man.
Take that, Avatar.

^^I would say the same. Typically, 'Unit' is usually referring to a squad or a platoon.
Also, Gamma, I would think you posted this in the right area

It's likely referring to a number of squads.
Also, remember that Episode II was made long before Republic Commando was even launched.

That's the interpretation I'd take from it too. In a military context I would always take 'unit' to mean, as CQ points out, a group of individuals in a particular regiment or team, rather than the individual him/herself.

Later in the movie if you look closely during the battle at the place where the gunships are deploying clones you can see Mace Windu leading a group of five clones that look like regular clone troopers. Or maybe some clone commandos chose to where clone trooper armor. Also maybe some clone commando squads had five members.

I always thought of a unit as a single soldier. I guess I was wrong all this time.

I can understandwhy you thought that, though. Most Video Games{Galactic Battlegrounds, sometimes Empire at War} refer singular men as units, as do most RTS video games. It can definately lead to confusion, but...well, now you know the origin so to say Hope I've been of help
