I was searching around for this yesterday! It suddenly dawned on me that even though I'd always picked up the telescope, and removed the lense, I had never made use them.

I always used the cannonball just because the cannonball had no other use. I felt sorry for it.

Now I vaguely remember doing the telescope way in the original... crazy shiz. Maybe it's for the people that don't want to collect any notes? (are there such people or am I just making stupid guesses)

Pretty much the same goes for lighting the cannon at the end of part II. You've got a lot of paper items that have no other use, so you can choose which one you want to burn.

It was more common in the old days to have more possible solutions to one puzzle. It made it a bit more realistic and less frustrating, preventing the situation where you come up with a solution but the game just won't let you do it, since you have to do it in a slightly different way.

I almost never use the lense of the telescope since it ruins it and you can't use it anymore. I think I first came up with the telescope solution by playing Monkey Island 2.

If you try to "open the telescope" Guybrush'll say something like "This is not Monkey 1."

Didn't help me anymore since I had finished Monkey Island 1 long before that, of course, but it's interesting to find these alternate solutions.
