Level Models
I'm working on a remake of Rogue Squadron the beginning of which you can find here: http://www.agpgames.com/agpstuff/RogueSquadron.html
If you're on a 64-bit Windows computer, maybe this one will work instead: http://www.agpgames.com/agpstuff/Rogue64.html
And if you're on a Mac, chances are you're still running Java 1.5, in which case it just won't work.
My game, when finished, will be compiled into a standalone Windows executable. If you do run it in its early applet form you'll notice what a bad model passes for Tatooine. If you're a modeler who could make me a model as rich in detail as the one in the original (the main problem with the original, in my opinion, is the low detail of the ships and the extremely small draw distance) I would appreciate it. For that matter, if any of you know of a converter between the original format and a popular 3d format, that would be equally helpful.

I was not able to play the RS game but I could with the others, considering you are doing this yourself this is a pretty good job.

Thanks (especially for grasping that I'm doing it by myself). But I'm not sure I understood you. Could you or couldn't you run it?

I could not run the Rogue Squadron game, it loads everything but then says starting applet and nothing happens. The other three games ran just fine, see if ne one else has trouble as my computer is not that great.

Would you be interested in checking it out as an application (Windows executable)? If so, e-mail me at bernardo@agpgames.com and I'll see if I can polish it up today and send you.

Zeaband, I got your e-mail but I'm not sure if you got mine. I have had reason to suspect my server lately. Anyway, I need a method by which to send it to you. MSN? E-mail me again.

Fixed the missing texture. And found out yesterday that in applet form, Rogue Squadron will only run if you have Java 1.6u10 or later (before then I couldn't allocate the 256MB heap that I need to run it). So if anyone had problems running it, just update to the latest JRE (1.6u15, I think) and you should be fine: http://www.agpgames.com/agpstuff/RogueSquadron.html

AGP your applet is suspicious, becuse it does not do anything but transferring data from all possible web ad sites. What is that all about?

Huh? It doesn't so much as open a socket. Take it back, dude, or nobody will run it.

Again you post this? Don't try to be cleverer than you actually are. My applet does not so much as open a socket. Lwjgl, on the other, in order to install temp files, via its AppletLoader, does some file-transfer, but NONE of it remotely relates to ads. So clever one, why couldn't you have e-mailed me this more-than-a-little offensive suspicion?

Why you are so nervous if everything is alright, AGP? Your applet does not work for me, but I suspect it does not work at all. If it is not true, please be a "clever boy" and post some screenshots of your game

How nice. You better clean your code and your mouth a bit Is "org.lwjgl.util.applet.AppletLoader notinited" your writing? Saying this it is not working at all now, but before it was saying "Transferring data from..." with different web ads sites.

I'm not using my mouth to communicate with you, genius. And no that's not mine, that's lwjgl's (lightweight Java OpenGL). I'm finding only so many computers can run this applet (no 32-bit Macs, for starters, because they're still running Java 1.5). Plus, since it uses 256MB of RAM, you have to have Java 1.6u10 or higher in order to allocate that much. Which is why I offered to send it to you in application form. So again, why didn't you e-mail me your more-than-a-little offensive suspicion?

Don't be bastardo, Bernardo. It is not good to be rude to people, especially to those you don't know, especially if you ask for their email address and try to send them some executable files. Adios, muchacho nice screenshots, by the way

Dude, I wasn't asking you for a favor, I was offering one, but the offer is off the table. For future reference, don't go telling people their programs do things they do not, especially offensive ones.

@ AGP: You've stumbled into a very old community and a lot of the people who started out 10 years ago are now in Administrative positions, so take note that we are watching what's going on in here.
Luka has been a part of this community for a long time and he was just worried and naturally suspicious of java applets... and to be honest, so am I. In fact, anyone with any experience on the net won't simply trust a Java applet off the bat when a new guy comes in and starts posting it up, so don't take it so personally.
I did check it out though (on a different computer... as I said, don't trust these things) and didn't find anything wrong with it in the end.
Anyway, enjoy your stay in Aresen, though to be honest, you won't find many people in here who are actively playing Rogue Squadron anymore... unless LucasArts decides to release the N64 version on Wii VC... which would be pretty awesome if they did XD

Dude, as long as we're in agreement that there's nothing wrong with it (and if I may toot my own horn a little bit, a whole lot of right).

I am going to judge your code without even testing or reading it. I count 217 missed semicolons, 37 instances of null pointer dereferences, and 22 cases of not-written-in-Cocoa. Also, you need to tighten up the graphics in level three. And hurry it up, I have another game that needs to be designed.

I seem to have solved a big issue involving a controller crash, so if it crashed for any of you, check it out now. Again, you must be running Java1.6u10 or higher due to its memory requirement http://www.agpgames.com/agpstuff/RogueSquadron.html
PS: I still need the help of an interested modeler if any of you who could be interested didn't get to run it last time and will this time.

No, how about you all show some for me instead? Now here's a guy who's been begging a broke game company for a level editor to its 12-year old game which only runs on some computers to begin with. I come along and write it from scratch asking for nothing but the help of level modelers that I may make it even better that the original and he claims that my program is accessing ad sites? Based on what? It's not like I was about it, he seems to believe he saw it. So no, I will show no more respect than I have in the past. How about that?

Yes, it's really funny, especially when half-quoted. It's also a HUGE challenge to improve on the original, having already written the general engine. But you know what? I'm getting nothing from having signed into these forums, so I don't see myself coming back. I leave you, Lynk Former, to your dead message board.

Well, I did tell you in the first place that this forum won't have the kind of people you're looking for. The most that happens in here is that the ye olden members gather together every now and again and laugh about old times.
It's not our fault a specific member with the skills you're looking for who is willing to help you does not exist here. Invent a machine that let's you go into another reality and find one there, maybe that'll work.
