I love the game, but you can't truly enjoy it if you just play the campaign. The multiplayer is where the fun really is.

I spoiled myself and looked up this airport level, and I can say that is too rich for me. Double Agent had a similar scene, Bring Down the Sky had a legitimate moral dilemma that you can justify either way. But given the content in Modern Warfare, it's a little disappointing that some games choose to go this route. I thought games were meant to be fun...we can have scenes of mindless slaughter in Saints Row or the deaths of civillians as a plot point in Rainbow Six but the No Russians level, do people actually consider that fun?

Heh, I don't really have a problem with any part of the game. Campaign was short, but it doesn't really bug me. I'll be playing online mostly anyway. I haven't really played much though. Focusing on Assassin's Creed II, which is almost done.

It's not meant to be a fun level, but one that provides another layer of depth into the different characters in-game, particularly Makarov.

Yeah, one of the things about all of this is that there were too many spoilers plastered all over the net. I wish I had gone through that level completely fresh with absolutely no information to colour my perception.

I'm actually glad that this was spoilt for me, as if I had gone and purchased the game and came across this, I think I would have wanted my money back. Granted it doesn't actually force the player to go through the mission, but, yeah, it has to be asked if this maybe hits a little too close to the bone. In my opinion it is a shining example that the game has become too dark, too far off the slippery slope. It was as though Infinity Ward were not content with the 'war is hell' message they seemed to portray in their first game and wanted to disgust people out of becoming a soldier. If that was their objective then I do think they are going to have some success.

Newsflash: darker books and films have existed for a long time, yet you don't hear too much about how they have gone off the slippery slope, because there are plenty of books/films that aren't as "dark". In the same way, games like MW2 should be able to happily coexist with scribblenauts, without falling off the slippery slope.

they should've thrown in child-soldiers too, maybe modern warfare 3 will have em.

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

Away from the direction the game has taken, I don't see any great improvement from the other games in the series. If you were to have something like Modern Warfare and something like Rogue Warrior, one is meant to be a statement on war and a simulation, where the other is a big dumb action movie. Some might find the latter to be more enjoyable, a similar style of game that is more forgiving where they can hear Marcinko mouth off throughout the level.

I just picked up the game after Christmas and promptly finished the single player campaign in about a day and a half. I have to say that I was pretty disapponted by a couple of things most notably the ending and a couple of character deaths that I thought were kind of lame.

At any rate I am sure I will get much more enjoyment out of the multiplayer when I start playing around with that.

The ending was the one thing I didnt like, its definately possible to set up sequels and have endings that don't suck. Aside from that I thought the single player was pretty epic, this was the first cod game I've played single player since 2 so maybe that makes me way more impressed. As for No Russian, how is it any different from games like GTA, I guarantee everyone who has ever played a GTA game has killed or shot at 100x as many innocent collections of pixels shaped like humans. But apparently running people over for getting in your way is completely different from a level you can probably pass without firing a single shot.
I've played multiplayer on my friends ps3 quite a bit and enjoyed it, still not close to the 64 player games of Foy on United Offensive that lasted for hours and hours but fun. Ill have to see how it is on computer when I get back to having good internet at college that doesnt require constant human sacrifice to get to work like my home's router.
