I'm new and preparing to build me first gaming PC..

And I need some help, particularly with what components to get to make my system run old games like KOTOR and the Neverwinter Nights as well as new games like Mass Effect, Star Trek and the upcoming Star Wars The Old Republic!!!!

I've got about £1000 to spend and something i can use for simple uni work.

I've been told to come over here from some peeps at the bioware social cause they said your all pretty knowlegdable!!!

So if you could spare 2 mins just to point me at some componenets that'll fit the bill nicely it'd be much appreciated!!!!

The GPU will be the key here. 1000 squid will get you a damn fine rig going

Are you looking for a pre-built or do you want to do it yourself??

One important question that can shape the answers is - what (native/max) resolution monitor do you have? What resolution do you usually game at?

Right now all i'm planning to use is my 32" samsung LCD tv.

It's a 1080i output and can go via HDMI and VGA. But if i'm moving flat in spetember time i could possibly be getting a smaller monitor so it's kinda up in the air i'm afraid.

But i'm looking to build the PC myself. Means I can hopefully get everything i want out of it!

If you have never build a computer before, I suggest asking someone (real life) who has, they can help you greatly.

A nice mobo, 2-4 gigs of ram, a graphics card with at least 512 mgs but more is better (also mind its bus speed)

If you suddenly come upon a large sum of money buy the Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition I7-975 Quad Core, its $1000 but worth every penny.

On the cheaper side:

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Dual Core: Its $100, its cool, quite, you can unlock 2 more cores and it can be over clocked.

AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz 4 core: $100, go with this one if you don't trust yourself to overclock

Id wait for the next iteration, which will be somewhat cheaper Still, if you are gamer, rather than a video editor/3D animator, then the CPU wouldnt be the focus of where you want to throw your cash.

So many games still only use one core...its not funny!

Do you have a preference for nvidia or ATI(AMD)?

Oh and neon light are a must
