Vista Capable?

Are the original PC games compatible with Windows Vista? Cause I want to get them and I'm worried that they'll be like a few of my other old PC games and not work with Vista.

What "original" PC games? The Jedi Knight series? I know that they're available on Steam and compatible through that, so I don't see why they wouldn't be.

If it ran on Windows XP, it'll very likely run on Vista (maybe even for Window 95). Google search for topics like this first.

VirtualBox may be worth checking out. I've heard of a lot of people having success running the original games on Windows XP / Vista / 7.

Good luck

On a slightly related note, my little brother wanted to play Knights of the Old Republic, and since 2 different friends of mine as well as my own copy of it for Xbox were stolen by the incredible games stealing fairy, I, ahem, acquired it for PC. Getting it to run on Windows 7 is a pain. You must run the installer in XP SP3 compatibility mode, then add the line "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" to your swkotor.ini file in the Graphics Options section to make it play nice with newer video cards/vista/Win7.

Just thought I'd add this information in case anyone else (like me) felt like playing through KotOR again

Just get them on Steam, It'll save you a lot of hassle, plus they're pretty darn cheap

You should play it at 800x600 for the nostalgic feeling. Even better if it stretches out to your 16:10 or 16:9 screen. Now you're really playing old PC games!

That's what I tried to use, and it failed, ended up having to follow the directions to hex edit the exe manually, god such a pain in the ass.

Oh well, KotOR at 1920x1080 was worth it.

Ah yes, I've seen that, but alas, I am running KotOR through Steam, and apparently it won't work without using a fixed exe, which violates Steam's terms of service. If it comes down to it I suppose I can crack it, but I'd prefer not to, if at all possible.

I'll give it a shot this afternoon.

*pats original disks for KotOR 1&2*

I've gotten both KotORs to play nice with Windows 7, and in widescreen to boot. Check out the second post in this thread for instructions. [/shameless plug]
