As If the Star Wars Saga on Blu-Ray Wasn't Enough...
Star Trek: The Next Generation is coming out on Blu-Ray next year. Thank god it was filmed instead of videotaped. The special effects will have to be redone, though.

But how often does something Star Trek get something re-re-re-released?

sounds cool. Something I wish they would do with Babylon 5 since it was intended to be HD 16x9. A lot of work/cost to redo the fx though, and apparntly B5 just isn't worth it commercially.

Actually I was reading up on it and apparently it's they're just going to clean up the existing shots so that all of the compositing artefacts are removed, etc. They're not doing the whole TOS route where they added cgi bits in there.

Yeah, TNG still holds up pretty well in terms of special effects. And when I first heard about The Original Series being redone a few years ago I was horrified, but they managed to pull it off really well for the most part, and actually add so much more to the episodes, especially now we can actually see the Enterprise fighting and not just firing blindly into space.

I read the opposite; that it would have redone special effects a la TOS, but either way is fine with me.
TNG has aged far better than TOS in that regard. TOS looked ancient in 1987.

Will it still be SD?
I was under the impression that everything before the Enterprise series was SD. In fact, that was one of the main selling points of Enterprise was that it was the first series to ever be done in HD?
I'd love to be wrong on this however

^They've already done the same with TOS if you're interested.

I wish they would, too. B5 had its weak spots, but it was terrific overall.
I have a feeling it'll be done sooner or later.
