How is it I decline a PVP duel, am not flagged for PVP, but still have to get killed by some twit almost double my level?

Oh..yeah.

I was just following my quest, on Tatooine. Wasn't flagged for PVP or anything, and along come two Sith. I was in the middle of fighting a droid npc and they start circling me or whatever, so i stealthed (not that it mattered, they can still see me I guess), and start heading the other way. Then I get a duel invite and I decline..then another, I decline.
Then the guy says "blah blah - 1 duel".
So i say whats the point? your almost twice my level. So, I cant remember what he was saying but, the droid and npcs I just killed respawn so i start fighting them..then all of a sudden Im flagged for PVP (I guess) and he jumps me and kills me with like 2 attacks.
Then I respawn so i can go about my quest and hes still there..and as soon as i come in he jumps and kills me again.
Is it even possible for someone to set your pvp flag with invites?..or somesuch?
And I suppose, though i really dont think so, that *maybe* I accidently toggled pvp on ...but i doubt it.
Anyway..I dont know what happened, but I didn't want to die just so he could feel like a tough guy...killing somebody half his level.
So after the second time I just went back to Anchorhead so he'd leave.
Kinda irritating.

A common thing that used to happen was that if you used an aoe while near a flagged played, it would flag you, but I believe they fixed that in one of the more recent patches... of course, that said, I think there may be other ways of getting flagged, but if you were playing a Republic character then I can't see how it would've happened.

If you were all playing Empire characters then they could easily auto-flag you by giving you a buff, but if you were a Republic character then they couldn't do that.

The only other way you could've gotten flagged is if you targeted them accidentally and attacked....


Either way, yeah, that's stupid they were definitely trying to harass you and you'd be well within your rights to report them.

Yeah, some retard sith. Maybe you should lvl up to at least 45 and teach them a lesson. I am sith but I don't do that. In my quest I was with a jedi master to defeat a "Darth". I didn't kill him. Though that must be annoying. Maybe ignoring them will work? Also maybe you can use that force cloak skill to get away from him?

Ok..thats what I wanted to know..there are other ways of getting flagged..I don't really know because this is really my first MMO. I played WOW for about two weeks and made it to 7th level or something like two years ago...

EDIT..nevermind..just dawned on me what that is..Area of Effect? Yeah I think I did.

Well, thats just it..I used my stealth..they could still see me. They had actually went away for a minute and came back. I stayed stealth for that long - but then they came back with their speeders and kept getting right up in my face and circling me - so they could see me regardless. Realizing this, I just unstealthed and was typing or something, which is about when the npc's spawned back in...so I had to fight those or else get killed by them.

I hope you reported them. I have zero tolerance for griefing and think they should be removed from game asap.

Well,...I dont know about all that. It's not that big of a deal. Its over now.. Just wanted to know if there were other ways they could have flagged me...

There was a glitch a while back.. You could be flagged by someone from the other faction if they attacked a mob or the same group of mobs that you were already attacking.. This was an old glitch and I thought it was fixed a long time ago..

The other issue that confuses me is that I was unaware you could ask players of the opposing faction to duel?? I will have to try this and see.. I know it didn't work in the beta.. I would think you wouldn't earn any valor from a duel with someone of the opposing faction..

Something else that has been happening, at least until recent patch, AOE skills that companions or players use can also hit someone from the opposing faction and hence flag the player for PVP.. Again, I heard that this was fixed as well..

Beyond that?? I saw a lvl 19 on Ilum tonight, so that stuff still isn't fixed.. So who knows what is or isn't fixed anymore..
