Star Wars 1313
Quote:
LucasArts Drops Gamers into the Criminal Underworld with New Mature Themed Videogame Franchise, Star Wars 1313™
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif - May 31, 2012 - LucasArts, a Lucasfilm Ltd. company, announced today a new internally developed videogame franchise, Star Wars 1313™. The game will make its formal debut at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles June 5-7. As players take control of a lethal bounty hunter in a never-before-seen dark and mature world, Star Wars 1313 introduces an integrated development approach by bringing together great artists across the Lucasfilm organization, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound. A third person cinematic action adventure game, Star Wars 1313 will bring to life the Coruscant underworld, the most dangerous place in the Star Wars™ galaxy.
Named for Level 1313, a ruthless criminal underground deep below the surface of the planet of Coruscant, the game puts players in control of a deadly bounty hunter as he uses an arsenal of exotic weaponry to hunt down his marks and uncover the truth surrounding a criminal conspiracy. Star Wars 1313 emphasizes epic set pieces and fast-paced combat with a hero who uses human skills and gadgets, rather than supernatural Force powers, to make his way through this dangerous world.
"We're excited to share one of the projects LucasArts has been hard at work developing," said Paul Meegan, President, LucasArts. "Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we've always known existed, but never had a chance to visit. We are committed to bringing the best gameplay experience and visual fidelity to life and I truly believe the work we are showcasing at E3 will speak for itself."

Eh, not holding my breath. LA has not had a good track record lately. I'll be playing a demo before buying this.

Assuming there is one. I think that the only thing lacking is a space component.
They will show some gameplay on Monday.

If nothing else, it is a bit of the beaten path and looks reasonably mature in target audiance.

This looks like "hives of scum and villainy" stuff. No Jedi.

Which, unfortunately (fortunately?), drives away all the people who are just like 'merp the Force Jedi merp'.
It looks pretty, but one does not sell a game simply because it looks pretty.

Well obviously we'll need to wait and see more of it before we can come up with anything more to say about it other than "it looks pretty" lol unless you want to have a conversation about making up things about the game and then critiquing them.

At the risk of sounding stupid I'd probably give it a go, more so if it is non-force/Jedi style type of game (too many lightsabers as it is).

Looks like LA's trying to hop into the Mass Effect crowd.

Get on with the program man, cover shooters aren't called GoW-clones any more, they're called Mass Effect clones.

Haha, indeed. But I was referring more to the coupling of "cover shooter" and "sci-fi". I'm surprised they didn't make him force sensitive, in place of biotics.

I was trying to make fun of games that have tried using their pretty graphics as their main selling point, but I've yet to get a good nights sleep in the past 2 weeks, so any examples I may have been thinking of are lost in what is essentially a bunch of screaming maniacs being smothered by pillows behind foggy glass. It's really a mess in there.

Cool. Wish LA would take a cue from Valve and make a move to Linux though.

wtf is linux
Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

1313 is looking intriguing. After getting a PS3 a little over a month ago I discovered the Uncharted series and feel in love with the gameplay(well everything about Uncharted I love). I mention this because the short tidbits we have gotten look very similar to Uncharted.
But I need MOAR! I'm still angry about TFU and TFUII....I hope Lucasarts redeem themselves. They haven't made a good game since 2006(Empire at War, which wasn't even developed by them!). Although the Monkey Island stuff was great.

TFU 1 wasn't bad. I'd really rather not talk about the 2nd one, though.

I concur. Discovered Uncharted 2 early this year, got 3 as soon as it came out and even went back and played 1. Whatever people say about the duration of the game etc, it is incredibly immersive, the action is seamless and cinematic, the story brilliant and the characters so memorable.
Nice to see LA going down a different route here. Gives me a similar feeling as when I watched Jedi Outcast previews for the first time all those years ago. And nice to see the lack of lightsabers - it's obvious these guys know what they're doing, as they ALSO recognised that SW games of late have been flooded with lightsaber driven combat, which reached it's dull and uninspired peak in TFU2. Too much Jedi can spoil the broth, and I've been waiting for a gritty, more mature and down to earth SW title.
Plus it looks f**kin' gorgeous.
